Don't be hatin!  I think they are pretty cool characters with quite a bit of depth.  Though the japanese developers sure do like to put feminate guys in their stories.

The last 3 FF's have all had femmy guys as their leading characters.  That includes Tidus.  Don't get me wrong though, I loved Tidus.  He was a great character.

Some of the character's personalities just didn't quite suit the game in my opinion. They ought to create a character that fans of the genre can relate to and really wanna play, or be in the driver's seat as. It's the role of the protagonist that is central to a game.

Tidus isn't a fighter, he's a blitzball player. It's like giving Larry Bird a sword and having him fight stuff, then when he can't,you call him a wimp. But Larry Bird is a basketball player, not a fighter.

The Reks being a wimp thing went way over my head, but Vaan and Tidus were definately the softest main characters in the series! Vaan pisses me off to no end

Vaan and Tidus were really whimpy whimps, they couldn't make anything of them selfs so they're always riding in the back seat of the damn story. FFs havent had good heroes since FF8 IMO.

I actually enjoyed Tidus and vaan as characters. Sure they werent as "masculine" as other protagonists, but they were well rounded, each with fears and curiosities of their own. There was more depth to them than your average protagonist.

People have a hard time respecting tidus.. whimp or not, the one thing u have to appreciate is that final fantasy games do what most games dont, and thats attempt to display all types of characteristics, Tidus was not whiny or whimpy, The features he had in final fantasy only made him more human, wich is completley respectable. LOL only from american games sghould u expect the Main charater to be all bad ass and fearless with a sleek outfit and accent to match. That just goes to show SE's creativity, deal with it

I never felt as if Tidus was wimpy. Throughout the entire game I was totally involved in his character and wanted him to succeed in his goals. I really enjoyed FF-X, but to be honest the ending kinda got me down cause Tidus had to have the guts to save the world despite knowing that by doing so he would cease to exist.

Now Vaan on the other hand, well, yea, he looks like a girl, and yea he's kind of a wimp, but what really bugged me about him is I never cared about him. I felt the story would go on just fine without him and I even felt as if he character had no real purpose for being in the game, but instead was just tagging along. Don't get me wrong, I love FF-XII, it's probably my favorite FF game, but I felt the characters in that game lacked the interest and personalities that really pulls a gamer into the story.

I agree with that so much.  In America it's all "KILL KILL KILL" and everyone and everything has to be all bad ass.  It doesn't matter if the character has the personality of a rock, just as long as they kill a lot of stuff and do it well.

That's what's great about FF games.  They don't conform and all the junk.

Tidus a whimp? Yeah, maybe. But actually what is still bothering me about FFX was that forced laughing Tidus and Yuna scene. I'm still wandering, what was that all about? :|

Maybe "whimp" is not the right word, but "dumb" might be better definition of Tidus (you can also include Yuna).

Tidus was just endereducated, he lived a sheltered life and by the end he was a determined man. He was perfectly suited to FF X, he was goofy enough to b around Yuna, Rikku, and Wakka, who would b difficult characters to foil. He also became friends with more abrasive characters like Auron, Kimahri, and Lulu. He bound the ragtag band together. As for Reks, if u had to defend ur nation with minimal training u might seem like a whiner and a little scared too, and i hate Vaan. Balthier is my god.

I've liked Vann and Tidus thoroughly although in the end in both X and XII I found more admirable traits taht I valued in Auron and Baltheir.  As for a previous post a ways back about a character to relate to...I'm sorry but I don't know many masculine people looking towards FF for enjoyment it's more subtle and docile people so therefore tidus and vann "hidden heroes" are more to the players personal standards...its the like with Spiderman and Batman/Superman alot of ppl pick Batman and Superman because of their qualities, but I'll always pick Spiderman because Peter Parker is just a kid who's got a lot of personal problems and just so happenedly got where he was by personal perserverance and luck.

I think if Tidus appeared as a wimp it was probably cos he was standing with Auron and Kimari who were tough guy characters. Stick anyone next to Auron and they will look like fairies
