Thre question would be:

Why did you waste your money on a ps3?

If I was you I would hold on to my ps2 until they release that so call PS3.5 or a PS4, cuz the PS3 to me doesn't seem so different from the PS2 other than the fact that you can play PS3 Games.

well said, i mean money doesn't grow on trees!!! and like sprigain says there are more important things in life, even if i spent 500 dollars on a ps3 the only games i would play on it would be ps2 games so it would be a waste of time, the ps3 games that are out right now are games that i have no interest in i would rather wait until better games come out.

Thre question would be:

i agree with mugensur aswell it really isn't that much different from the ps2 the only differences are is that you can play ps3 games on it, and who bloody cares if you can play ps2 games in better graphics, graphics aren't that important game play is

2ndWonder

Exactly. I in no way have that kind of money to spend on a game console. Sure, I'd like to be able to play some of the games on it, but it's way too expensive. The PS2 is more than enough for me, so I don't need a PS3. Maybe when the price drops... we'll see.

As far as games go, I have enough on my plate to last me for a long time, given all the systems and games that I've been playing. I'll pick up a PS3 when I see a title that really catches my interest (the closest being Ninja Gaiden Sigma).

The ps3 price is high compared to other next gen consoles.

And it does not offer any good RPGs at the moment.

I have upgraded to a PS3, but I think most people are probably waiting for a price drop and more good games. Which is understandable.

sorry, I do not believe ps3 puts ps2 and ps1 games in 1080p.  and it definitely doesn't upconvert them from 720p to 1080p being as ps1 can only do 480i, not even 480p or widescreen, and ps2 can only do 480i,p, some other countries equivalents to the same resolution, widescreen, and with gt4, they tricked the television into accepting a false 1080i signal.  but it still looks great through hdmi.  Also ps3 has a lot of advantages over ps2.

1.  Playstation Network (free)

2.  Real HDTV signals, and every one at that.  480i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p.

3.  Connects with HDMI cable guarenteed (and can use HDCP, which even though XBOX360 Elite has the HDMI cable, it still will be sending compressed video data and compressed sound data, and may have HDCP, but if you have the HD-DVD drive (and you'd be an idiot to do that in my opinion due to the fact that HD-DVD is being dominated by Blu-Ray, as it should technologically, also Blu-Ray movies are usually CHEAPER!) the HD-DVD drive connects to the 360 with *gasp!* USB.  Problem with that is USB can NOT use HDCP, and will therefore cause problems, especially in a few years (though HD-DVD will hopefully have been abolished by then) given the fact that movie companies like their movies required to play with an HDCP compatable device, so when it's not played with an HDCP compatable device it cripples it, keeping it from running in it's full awesome-ness which it possibly can, which gets more and more necessary when displaying High Definition.

4.  Blu-ray movies

5.  Blu-ray games

6.  Guarenteed Hard Drive

7.  Native High Definition videogames

8.  Native Widescreen videogames (for those potential widescreen haters, it's not distorted, it's the way almost every movie ever made was shot, you get 30% more viewing space, and also it looks so sleek, theatre like even.)

9.  Unparalleled processor, giving a new level in processing ability to enhance games

10.   A new way of using memory (and it does have the same amount as the xbox 360, and the memory is used better too might I add making the memory a lot more effective than the 360's shared memory) allowing (not getting into details here but...) no latency which is a huge problem with the larger the memory you have.

11.  PSP connectivity

12.  Works real well as a media center

13.  FREE game demos, such as Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and a good handful of others which are really fun and let you see the games before you try them

14.  No need for multitap

15.  Helps cure diseases

16.  About 100,000 active PS3's have made folding@home the worlds most powerful supercomputer, and are contributing to no less than over 50% of the terraflops which the program gets, and sometimes even close to 2/3-3/4, helping research the causes of cancer, alzheimers, and a plethora of other diseases, contributing to years of research done in a single day.

17.  this should have been up near the top of the list, sorry.  Uncompressed 7.1 Linear Pulse Code Modulation 24-bit 192khz surround sound in game with an astonishing 512 voices @ once.  Much more than ps2, and a lot better than xbox 360's voices, and in a way better sound format too.  With out a doubt the biggest improvement to audio in consoles.

18.  Backwards Compatability almost 100%

19.  Easily replaceable Hard Drive.

20.   Can save PS1 games and PS2 games saved data on your Hard Drive, Eliminating the need to have Memory Cards (if you want to transfer saved data, get the adaptor for 15 dollars.)  (memory sticks still very useful)

21.  Internet Browser

22.  Full games available only for downloading from PS Network.  (varies in price, includes some PS1 games)

23.  Looks awesome.

24.  Really quiet.  Probably the most silent console I've ever heard that runs on discs.

25.  Final Fantasy has always been on the console that wins the console wars per generation.  It is slated to be a ps3 exclusive game.

If 25 good reasons why the PS3 is worthwhile isn't enough for you, so be it.  I could have listed more, but I didn't feel like it, and 25 is a good number to stop at.  But the reasons why you should get one just keep on coming, and I hate to say this, but give it 2 years, and then see how good it is.  Don't jump boat on Sony, there are many reasons why ps1 and ps2 were the two most popular consoles of all time, and the same reasons (maybe a little different to make it apply to this generation, but generally the same) still apply now.  Once it is multithreading (or multithreading more efficiently) XBOX 360 will not be able to compete, once again for reasons I will not get into (due to the fact that even the intellectually above average individual still probably would not understand, or maybe even care) basically due to some of the more easily overlooked things in the console, such as the L2 Cache, or for ps3 the L2 Cache equivalent.  Games programmed in Blu-Ray will be superior because everything will be uncompressed, and will remain that way for a long time, if not permenantly.  Games can be so large that the 360/Wii will be unable to ever play it.  There is also much more room for more content, which the other consoles will be falling far behind on.  I believe that all 3 next gen consoles are good enough (granted you want the games for them)  but I am the most impressed with the ps3.  But that is just me, and what do I know...  (IQ of 168, photographic memory, researches constantly, enough money to get whatever console I want in under 1 month working)

My opinion is:  PS3 is definitely much better, and if you don't believe so yet, wait till you have a HDTV, or in a few years, for it will undoubtably be worth it then.  If you need, wait for the first price drop.

Anyone disagree?   That's fine, these are my tastes, and I need the best of the best, I chose PS3.  I can back up my opinion very well, not that I'm trying to argue with people, but I would be interested to see what you guys think of my reasoning here, so let me know what you guys think of it please.

It's still too expensive over here, and the game prices are also pretty extortionate. Then again, down here in M'sia, we're so used to buying RM5 games (about $2) that we're reluctant to spend anything more than that on it. A lot of us are also still waiting for games to come out. I know there's Oblivion and a few other really good games already out, but not everyone can be expected to be playing the same games, right?

What's with the hurry of getting the new console??during the ps2 launch there is only one single promising console..but now there are 3 great console with unique features..plus,ps3 is wayyy too expensive for most of us,I guess only rich kid can upgrade instantly to the next gen.i don't really care about HD as for now,I don't have a HDTV either,so what is the point..upscaling?don't know bout that,I think the game graphic in ps2 is good enough..I don't know if blu-ray is good or what, but before the winner of the next gen format is decided,I don't wanna invest in any current format...as for now,I'm sure that ps2 games can keep me occupied since I havent played most of the games released earlier:onimusha, dmc and much much more..so why make the haste to upgrade??price does matter, but a game console is nothing without good games...what's the point of advanced hardware if there is so little exclusives?I don't wanna play multiplat games using a more expensive console...so before the developers know which system is the best to work with and make games,it's better to wait a little more..and oh yeah, about the games:

resistance:i don't like shooter

oblivion:i thought it came out in xbox360 long ago

motorstorm:nice game,but,oh well...........

so most of us doesn't really care about blu-ray,HD and the other stuffs..moreover I agree that game is fun,but there are other more important things..consumers have the right to choose what they want..ps2 still kicks ass.think I can still play it for another one or two years..till then,I won't even think about upgrading!

Just before I start, I'd like to point out I'm Canadian (before anyone stupidly disputes the prices I state as not being US prices).

I haven't bothered to "upgrade" to a PS3 because I simply don't want to. I'm more perplexed about why you give a damn what other people do. There are no games on the PS3 (or the other two for that matter) that remotely intrigue me. I tried the so called "next gen messiah" that is Oblivion on my PC (and again, before anyone says anything, my PC by far exceeds requirements), And I am indifferent.

Most new games are simply older ones with a nice coat of paint, some fancy bloom, particule and lighting effects along with... That's it for the most part. Especially look at multiplatform titles. Even exclusives are essentially old standbys with some lavish new effects that in no way justify the extra cost.

Why should I spend $70 on a PS3 game when I can get more than a handful of PS2? My girlfriend and myself have been on a PS2 buying frenzy as of late and have acquired a couple dozen games. Figuring it out to ourselves we could have simply forked over for a handful of "next gen" titles. When I can acquire Dragon Quest VIII, Psi-Ops, Shadow of Rome, Rogue Galaxy, Def Jam: Fight For New York and Shadows Hearts: From The New World for the exact same price as Resistance: Fall of Man.... I think I'll pass on your so-called better "next gen" games.

And on top of all that... The system's price. When I hear of people who actually own the infernal thing I just shake my head. $700 for a video game system is excessive. It's what undid the friggin' 3DO back in the day, and put the death nell on the Saturn and Jaguar... But because Sony does it, it's acceptable. And I don't give a damn about Blu-Ray. Shove your fancy over price and marginal better DVD format whereever you wish. Wake me when developers take advantage of it.

In fact, wake me when any developer actually gives me something I have never seen before. Something to truly blow me away and make me take notice. And no, not with some crappy HDR lighting. I mean something to do with the damn games, not how many particle effects or bump mapped textures they can throw out.

The very reason I don't justify a graphics card upgrade over $200 is why I can't be bothered with the PS3. If I wanted to blow money on prettier graphics I would, but I don't.

I fully see the benefits and advantages of the PS3 (and to a lesser extent the 360, the Wii,as fun as it looks and I'm sure is, is more an upgrade of the current generation with a fancy remote - and like the others isn't being used to its potential yet). But a $200 or more price drop along with games that can actually justify their $70 price without the already boring defense "they're next gen!".

Maybe it's the fact I've grown up playing games since the Atari 2600 and the NES, but truthfully slightly better graphics don't do it for me. They better start cranking out games that make previous ones pale in comparison for me to really care much like the previous generations have. Also perhaps it's because the PS2 library is so friggin immense it's not even funny, Do you know how many games $700 can buy on the PS2?  Regardless bills, food and the such are far more important. Your system shouldn't be more than my rent a month.

Drop the price and start getting games that matter and the PS3 may be worth it. But as it stands, it's an overpriced toy that at present doesn't do things that much different than what came before.

Gone are the days of going from Final Fantasy III to FF7 or Mario World to Mario 64. The new consoles don't really hook me (well maybe a Wii someday since it's tring to be different) but what can I say? PS2 Games look good enough to me already and there lots to choose from.

FaytOfId

Sony just released a firmware update that allows you to run ps1 and 2 games up to 1080p my t.v. is only 720p and it makes the games 720p to.There is also a smoothing option added that gets rid of the jaggies.

I never saw the point in buying a system when its this young, theres usually something wrong with early releases of the system and theres not enough good games to make me want it early. Plus the price is way too high, Ill probably want it later though cause of MGS4 but the price has to drop alot before I decide to get a ps3.

im sick and tired of hearing people rant about the price of the PS3 you guys do know that if you were paying for a computer with the same specs you would be paying at least $3000

if you had all this time to rant about the price why not work for it like i did

there was a reason for the CEO of sony to say the price of the PS3 6 months before it came out its for people to start saveing if you put at least $50 a week from then you would of had it by now though i do guess that some of you cant save (you have your reasons)

and allso im no PS3 fanboy but the time of DVD is over blu-rays are outselling HD-DVDs

While you may be sick and tired of hearing people rant about the price of the ps3...I am sick and tired of people telling me that I shoulden't be complaining about it. I can't afford a ps3 or a new computer so don't tell me to stop ranting... Yeah I have my reasons as to not being able to save...It's called bills. Even if someone did give me a years notice life happens and saving up money is not always an option. And sorry but no the time of the DVD is not over...

There is no question that I'm EVENTUALLY going to buy a PS3.  The thing that has really kept me from buying it is the lack of games.  The games that were listed I either already have (oblivion) or they just aren't my cup of tea.  I'm probably going to wait until christmas to buy one because the holiday season is always great for game releases and a lot of good looking games are coming out over the holiday season.  The only bad part about that is every OTHER system is going to have the same deal and I am going to want those to...Yeesh I'm going to have an expensive Christmas....but, that's why I'm going to keep my ps2 until the time arrives when GOOD games are flourishing about.

hi i had a ps2 but traded it in at gamestop for 100 to be taken off my ps3. the point of this is well why you ps2 users are still on ps2. why haven't  you guys moved over to ps3 . it cost 500 and if you think there are no games oblivion restiance motorstorm and you can still can play ps2 games and all ps2 and ps1 games get upscales from 720p to 1080p. god of war 2 and resident evil 4 look way better if you play them on a ps3. so what is your reason for not getting one ?mka990

Why do you assume we don't have one?

I've owned a PS3 for a little over 5 months now. But the amount of time I spend playing it is still much, much less than the amount of time I spend playing my PS2. The reason is simple -- quality and quantity of games available. I have a library of 150+ good-to-excellent PS2 titles that I enjoy a lot. I have 10 PS3 titles, most of which are mediocre at best, and which offer me less fun and enjoyment than any handful of PS2 games I could pick at random from my PS2 collection. And there are still a lot of great PS2 games available out there that I haven't got yet... whereas I've bought all the current PS3 titles that I'm even slightly interested in, and it looks like it's going to be a very long while before there are very many more that I'm that eager to buy for the newer console.

So I prefer the PS2's superior game library for obvious reasons, and I've preferred to play them on their native console -- my real PS2. Until 4 days ago, my PS3 has been vastly inferior at playing PS2 games, compared to the PS2. The addition of upscaling and smoothing with the most recent update is interesting, and a step in the right direction I think. So is finally allowing saved games to be moved from the PS3 hard drive back to a PS2 memory card. These and other features should have been in the PS3 at launch in my opinion, but they are good changes, so... better late than never.

But like a lot of other PS3 owners, after trying out a while now I'm frankly not all that blown away so far by any combination of the upscaling or smoothing options for PS2 games yet. And as others have commented on the PS3 forum, I find that some games actually look worse with those options on. At any rate, when I compare games on the PS3 and PS2 one after the other on the same HDTV (a 50" 1080p Sony SXRD), it's not a dramatic enough difference to really be all that excited about, to me. Of course, we've only had a few days to play around with it, so there are still games I haven't tried. After all, the upscaling and other stuff wasn't even available on the PS3 before Thursday.

Even though I think Sony is moving in the right direction on improving backward compatibility, many of the PS2 games I enjoy have suffered from serious compatibility glitches when running on the PS3, particularly annoying sound-related problems. The PS3's lack of rumble support was a big drawback for me in all games, both PS2 and PS3. I understand I could probably get a USB adapter and an extension cable now, if I really wanted to use a stock PS2 DualShock 2 on my PS3 for rumble support in PS2 games, and I think adding rumble support back in is also a great (if belated) improvement they're working on. But I frankly haven't felt the need to bother with it, and likely won't, until a true Sixaxis controller with rumble is finally available. I generally use my trusty Logitech Cordless Action controller (wireless plus great rumble and great battery life) on the PS2, and everything plays exactly like it's supposed to with no hassle.

So the bottom line is, my PS2 games work flawlessly on my PS2, and since any advantages of playing them on the PS3 don't really outweigh the disadvantages for me, I play the games on the consoles they were designed for. Having tried various times over the last several months to play my PS2 favorites on my PS3, I've certainly been glad that I didn't make the mistake of trading in or selling my real PS2 when I got the PS3, like so many people seemed to.

Good for you. I would clap, but it wouldn't matter, much like your opinion.

The PS3 is an overpriced excessivly overhyped and beyond unimpressive console. You say that the specs in it would amount to a $3000 computer. Where on earth do you shop? Not even close honestly. Regard;ess, if I want a PC, I'll buy a PC. If I want a reasonably priced console with great software at a good price I'll stick with the PS2. If I want a ridiculously priced console with price gouged mediocre software I'll buy an Atari Jagu... I mean PS3.

And honestly, what is impressive about the PS3 outside of "possibilities" and "what will come later"? Right now one of its so called touted titles is a year old port of a 360/PC game. Of which my computer which cost the same as a PS3 (and can do inumerably more things) can play it just as well if not better. Oh, and my PC cost nowhere near your supposed $3000.

And who cares if Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD. Regular ol' DVD is outselling both combined and multiplied. As it will for quite some time to come.

Oh, and many people have jobs and can afford many things. But it's so amazingly awesome that you have one too and can save up $50 a week. You're like the greatest man. You're my hero!! Can I have your autograph?

If it was as cheap as $500 I'd buy it right away. Unfortunatley here in Sweden it costs the equivalent of, roughly, 900$. Whoop de doo.

This:

UK price £425=$836
US price $600=£304

and this makes the PS3 highly unappealing to people in the EU who haven't got a lot of disposable income. Especially when games are RRP at £49.99 a time (nearly $100)

If the price in the UK was close to the American Price I'd be far happier and be picking up a PS3 I suspect.

WHY? BECAUSE IT'S TOO F**** EXPENSIVE! Easy for you to say because you already bought one. But for me, it is too early to buy a PS3, because it may have the Tendency to change it's hardware specs AGAIN like the PS2s before. And besides, WE enjoy PS2 because it had LOTS of games.

in new zealand ps3's cost 1500 nz dollars i would rather put that much money on a car , video games are fun and all but there are more important things in life , for now i'll just stick with my ps2Sprigain

No the PS3 is NZ$1200 and Sony is going to release a NZ$1000 PS3 soon.
