My friend had the same problem as you did. You don't have to hold circle.
Shoot the T-Rex until the rage meter reaches the max. He will send out a distress signal, then begin to charge. When the screen comes up and says to press O (This screen has to come up to enter the adrenline dodge, do not press circle to early)and, quickly shift the analogue stick to the left or right (so she will move left or right)and then PRESS circle quickly. This will make you enter a slow motion scene where two grey circles are visible. Once these two grey circles line up and turn red, SHOOT. Also, make sure you are not shooting while the T-Rex is charging, if you are constantly shooting your slow motion dodge will end before the two grey circles meet up. When the t-rex is charging dont shoot, but wait till the 'press O' screen comes up, move to the left and press O to enter the andrenaline dodge, wait till the two grey circles line up to turn red, and shoot.
This will take a fair amount of damage off the T-Rex, but if you want to kill the T-Rex in three dodges, here is the way. If you notice, the area you are in has three different spiked logs near the rock walls. Try making it so you continuesly shoot the t-rex so the rage meter reaches max, but while you are shooting the t-rex you are running backwards towards one of these spiked logs. He will charge you, then you should enter the andrenline dodge, and shoot him when the grey aiming circles turn red. You will continue to jump out of the way and he will run into the spiked log and take 1/3 of his health away.
