What was so great about the PS2?

Back in 2001 I got a PS2... Got afew games for it, then my house got robbed, and was stolen from me.

...6 years later....

In the Summer of 2007 decided to purchase a slimline platnum PS2. I figured I'd have a huge selection of games to look forward to playing... it turns out that they're weren't too many PS2 games that I'm interested in. So... I started with the best of the best and bought Shadow of the Colossus. Good game, abit of slowdown at parts, but overall a unique great game. So I tryed another PS2 exclusive title... Katamari Demacy, another fun game that doesn't take itself too seriously.. Then I got God of War and was totally blown away.. somebody got it right and of course it was the team which made Twisted Metal..... Guitar Hero 2 was awesome aswell.

OK so... What other games are they're for me to play.... hmmm... God of War 2, sure; Persona 3, hell yeah... but after that I haven't seen any other games which jump out at me. I feel like I didn't miss very much in the 6 years of not having a PS2.

BTW, Can somebody recommend some more PS2 games which ARE NOT a KoH, FF, MGS, or GTA??

There is sooo many. The rpg's on ps2 are amazing. It's something the ps3 doesn't have but should.

These are the must haves if u are a PS2 owner..I hope i have not missed any..All these games make up only 30% of the total games..And thats why PS2 is sooo great because of its huge library of games which no gaming console can match..And the games that i have listed are my favourites..And there are many many more awesome ones which i have not tried.. And m sure u will like all the games i have mentioned above..

Yup 6 six years... Instead I bought a Gamecube because it was the cheapest alternative.

My PS2 wasn't the only thing that got stolen though. I had a PS2, PS1, and N64 with tons of great games... Our house got robbed and alot of other stuff was stolen aswell.

People didn't buy PS2 because of the DVD player. The DVD player was just a convenience. Why would they buy a $200 PS2 when they could get a DVD player for $30 bucks. Some games that I recommend are:

True, the PS2 was the first game console to play DVDs. Back in 2001-2002 you couldn't find a DVD player for 30 bucks. Many people would want the Combo of having a DVD player + Game console. I'm thinking differently of the PS2 today after all the comments and I take back what I said about the PS2 only being good as a DVD player.

Resident Evil 4, I already own the original version of it on the Gamecube. I've beat it about 5 times and still play it every once and a while. Thanks for the recommendation though.
