I personally really liked 3. The Yellow Turban Rebellion scenario was great and I replayed it dozens of times. I also really dug 4. Dynasty Warriors 4 Empires is damn good as well. Some different elements like province picking. 1 to 5 are all pretty much the same...beat down the hordes...but 4 did it really well,it maxed out the concept and brought it to the apex. That is the only one you would need.

They are all practically the same with minore tweaks and features here and there. Though I suggest Wariors Orochi since it combines the Samurai Warriors series in one terribly unremarkable package!

i just got warriors orochi.its dynasty warriors+samurai warriors+some orochi thing.its a great game and u can change between 3 players during gameplay (provided u choose the 3 before starting the game).its still the same old hack n slash and the graphics never change.but the game is pure fun to play.otherwise, dynasty warriors 5 Empires was awesome.

Wariors Orochi would be your best bet. I love them all but i would not go any earlier than dw4. and for your first one i would stay away from the DWel, it is not as much story envolved as the others. Even though i have not picked up Wariors Orochi yet (got to get off my but and do it today)i am sure that it is a quality game. and dont worry about the bad reviews those are just generally people that dont give the game a chance. If it was all that bad then people would not be buying the games and they would stop making them(they are up 14 games from the Dynasty Warrior and Samuri Warrior now).

Dynasty/Samurai warriors are "essentially" all the same but you should try to get the latest version because they will have the most up to date mechanics. The most recent game was Samurai Warriors 2. Dynasty Warriors 5 was the one before that and it has a much larger cast of fighters but not as great mechanics. Another important factor is whether you want the normal version or EMPIRE mode. Normal version you play through a characters story and go through specific maps. Lots of cinema and storytelling. Empires let you make your own characters and you china/japan gets divided up into territory and you try to take over all those territories. I like empires because you can go through that game and unify the land several times and each time will be a different experience as there will be differe leaders to fight against and random generals in their armies. Lots of replay value. I havent got to play Warriors Orochi but I hope like hell they come out with Warriors Orochi Empires.

How can you recommend a game you haven't even played?!Yeah all the Dynasty's are essentially the same, but you can't know until you play....I am confused by your peddling of merchandise you haven't jumped into.

When you have played Fifa 2004, 5 and 6 and enjoyed them all its hard to imagine 2007 will miraculously break away from the norm and offer this alternate experience dont you think?

That's the point. It's not about thinking...but KNOWING. If a person actually plays the game, they KNOW. Someone who hasn't is basing an opinion of conjecture and assumptions. Indeed one can ASSUME a game will follow a trend of set expectations but as we all know...assuming makes an a$$ out of you and me both.

Dynasty Warriors 5 is a great game. There is a huge selection of warriors to pick from, each one with a unique story mode. What I would really recommend is Samurai Warriors 2, similar to DW but set in Feudal Japan instead of ancient China. The characters are all really great. The graphics and play mechanics are the most developed in this title.

With these two, you can get ready for the release of Dynasty Warriors 6. I'm also still hopeful that we'll see Samurai Warriors 2: Xtreme Legends come to the states sometime soon. The additional characters and features look amazing.
