...Not to sound rude but I'm getting tired of god of war fans.

Listen, the game it's great but it's not the best thing there is.

Take the blood out and it's a normal game, what makes it great is the blood, the gameplay it's not that great all you do is smash buttons and thats all, great graphics make it good but thats it.

You are asking what game has the best gameplay, well RE4 is better than this...I could even say that Timesplitters is better and more fun...Again don't get me wrong I don't want to sound rude but God of war is not the best game there is.

No need to snap at the guy for expressing an opinion that isn;t filled with that much fan boyism. I think God of War has to be a serious contender for best gameplay ont he PS2. RE4 still felt sluggish so I wouldn't say best game based on gameplay.

Look, I love Capcom--I've played all the REs, Onimusha 1 and 2, and DMC 1. But you can not compare static pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles in those games to the completely 3 dimensional world aspect of the GOW series in which you can swim, climb, fly, etc. The graphics for GOW are the best you will ever see on the PS2, and there is massive depth to the environments and bosses. The way you are rewarded in the mini-games and combos with even more spectacular graphics is an experience that is second to none. IMO, the gameplay is so much better in GOW, and the storyline is better. I love Japan, and I have been there 8 times, but they can not tell a story without confusing the hell out of me. Doesn't stop me from watching anime and playing their games, but it's about time that a good old American made game like the God of War series (although late out of the gate) comes out and crushes the competition. Nuff said.

I think that question is pretty vague as not every gameplay can be compared to each other. For example, I can't compare GoW to Black because the gameplay on both games are not on the same category.

All I can say for sure is that DMC3 gameplay is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than GoW (for much that I like it).

GTA series because of the unlimited stuffs to do and Hitman series because of many ways to beat each mission. GoW is too linear. It's a typical "start to end" game. All you have to do is button smash and go where you haven't been.

Well, GOW and DMC are both in the "Action/Adventure" genre, so they are at least comparable whereas a FPS is not comparable to say a fighting game like Tekken. The DMC control method and limited camera angles hurts it when you compare gameplay, which is what this topic was started on.

As far as GTA goes--yeah that's why so many people like that series, because you have an open environment and open-ended missions. But that can get shallow real quick because the main goal for many people playing that game is just so that they can roleplay as a thug.

These are all just our opinions BTW--we are all talking about really great games that everyone should play.

oh my.

The Game has an "American" character, it rules!.

GOW Gets to repetitive and it loses its "greatness" after the first level, and stop with american and japanese thing, we don't need no discrimination.

EDIT: SMW>GoW

Yes you can swim too, you can fly, you can climb too, you can shoot firballs swing your racoon tail and climb a yoshi, OMG it's better than GoW, lol.

No, GoW does not have an "American" character--but it was developed by American game programmers in California, including the storyline. There's no discrimination, and your rush to label my post as such speaks volumes about your idiocy. I simply said that Japanese storylines and plots are confusing. I played and finished FFVII back in 1997, and I never figured out what the hell kind of story they were trying to tell, and I'm not the only one. The Metal Gear series is the same way. It's like the writer is a 4 year old kid just making up a fantasy that in the end makes no sense. But I still buy and play all of these games because they have some redeeming factor to them to make up for the horrible storyline. I would say it's a difference in culture, but I have talked to many Japanese gamers and they either don't know or don't care about storylines--mostly they don't care as long as gameplay is cool, and that's what leads me to the conclusion that it's not a culture thing, it's just bad writing.

It annoys the heck out of me when people say stuff like this, how do you play a video game? you mash buttons, tell me a game that you dont mash any buttons and you can have your point, plus most fighting games have button mashing combat controls exept for like Final Fantasy, plus ppl play GoW b/c its an awesome fighting game, they play it to demolish enemies and to dominate everything in sight. Thats why it is so great, and if you want to get technical, take what everyone else is saying and you cant compare 2 different combat styles

i like mgs2 a lot. its an action game, but in order to get through each room, you must approach it like a puzzle(well i guess not so much if you like to run and gun, but i try to use as few bullets as possible). im notsaying its better than anything else, i just like it the most.

Well, i have played God of War a little and it didn't impress me at all... its a nice game but i think that a lot of games are better.

RE4 is a great game but in my oppinion Okami just has a better gameplay. The freedom it offers you is just amazing and you will have tons of fun with the brush technique:D

my idiocy? dude you are saying you can't understand a storyline made by japanese that shows your idiocy, you saying a game is bad because YOU can't understand the story? get out of here xD

Also as I said It's just a game with a lot of blood thats what makes it "cool", take that and it's nothing more than just random beat'em up game...not to mentione the camera sucks, you can't look on top of you so whatever is on top is a secret wow...gameplay? it's not that great just smash buttons and thats it...

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing this game and it was good but it's not the best game out there, not just because the cmera sucks but because it gets repetitive after level one.

Well, GOW and DMC are both in the "Action/Adventure" genre, so they are at least comparable whereas a FPS is not comparable to say a fighting game like Tekken. But GOW is the first total 3D game that has pushed the PS2 hardware to its ultimate limits, and the result is stunning. The DMC control method and limited camera angles hurts it when you compare gameplay, which is what this topic was started on.

But the thing here is that the gameplay is more extensive on DMC... I love GoW but it's just hack n' slash. DMC3 kinda fixed it with the extensive amount of combos you can pull off thanx to the styles Dante has.

So again DMC3 is better than GoW. And yes, we're talking about gameplay here.

I agree that DMC has more extensive combos, and that when you pull them off you feel like a hero, but combos alone do not gauge overall gameplay. And combat is not the central part of GoW. If you can't solve the puzzles and navigate the immense 3D environment, hack and slash doesn't do you any good.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I think the GoW series is absolutley groundbreaking--in fact, imitations like PS3's "Heavenly Sword" will not interest me in the slightest.

Watch the making of GoW DVD. They go to the E3 show to demo GoW II and everyone there thought it was a "next gen" game until they got close and saw it was PS2 game! The graphics and speed are that good! So sad that the next GoW will be on the PS3, but that will be one reason for me to get one!

I personally think Twisted Metal Black is one of my favs for gamesply, its one of teh few ps2 games I can come back to and play, and still have ag reat time. MGS 3 is pretty good.. you can lean on walls, and take head shots then hide from the enemy..or go in stealthy and hide in grass.. creepy up behind slit his neck. Or you can play a mix of both. GTA also has great gamesplay, thought I gotta agree Hitman is great as well. I'm sad that GTA has gone multiplatform though.

Gameplay is a difficult one especially in a choice of games as large as the PS2's.

I think a top five is in order

Ratchet & Clank (Insanly addictive gameplay)

GTA:SA (Incredibly diverse gameplay)

MASHED (Best party game ever)

Timesplitters 2 (Best multiplayer gameplay)

Prince of Persia (Best platforming gameplay)

Baron_14

I agree.

Devil May Cry 3 has the best gameplay. It's really easy, and fun, to fight countless monsters using different styles of fighting and being able to chnage your guns/weapons at the same time... Plus it's challenging, so it will keep you busy for a while...

I liked DMC3, that was pretty good. I also like the FFXII gameplay (the story... not so much). GOW is cool but not the best.

Accent Core hits the shelves today.
