Silent Hill is more of a thinking/puzzle solving game with actually scarry parts. Resident Evil is more of an action game, but still has some puzzle solving. Personally, I like all the Silent Hill games more than any Resident Evil. But RE is still good. Silent Hill 3 is quite a bit better than 2 though.

between the two DEFINITELY Silent hill 2. Its ambiance is perhaps the best in the entire horror game genre. RE4 isnt even like a resident evil game. Its just a bland shooter for the most part. Get the other RE games if you are going that way. Or a real shooter.

Meh I got bored of RE4 halfway through, not scary at all and gets repetitive soon. I think if you've never played an RE before then you should try it if you like action games. I've heard good things about the Silent Hill series though.

Resident Evil 4 is more of an action game than horror. The only time i got scared in RE4 is when them chainsaw wielding sisters chased after me. I believe Silent Hill 2 will suit you better with horror. I honestly had more fun in RE4 though.

well, RE4 isn't a horror game, so you should get SH2 if your looking for a horror game

RE4 is not a horror game... but it's definitely a must buy.

havent played silent hill 2 but i played silent hill 3 and id have to say get re 4... although each game has a completely diff feel. if u like action adventure id have to say re 4 (and it's just a better game overall in my opinion)

silent hill has a creepy atmosphere and clever puzzles but lacks excitement in terms of fighting .

the fighting in RE4 is more exciting because it takes more skill, strategy and tact (using ur points wisely to upgrade ur guns, buy the right weapons, has more selection in terms of equipment , items..ect). re4 also has nice environments, bosses, enemies and characters (more variety). silent hill is pretty monotone when it comes to diff enemies, areas and fighting.it tends to be the same stuff over and over again. so i'd have to say re 4 for sure.

if you want horror game, play Silent Hill. if you want carnage in an action game ( not horror ), play RE4

RE4 is considered horror because there are disgusting, ugly creatures in it, its not a scary horror game

silent hill 3>resident evil 4

of course resident evil has better graphics and gameplay, duh it came out later, but silent hill 3 its way "scarier" than resident evil 4.

I have them both and I think silent hill 3 is scarier than resident evil 4, well...I also got bored of resident evil 4 since there is no zombies just some fools with a virus inside...I don't want to spoil everything.

Get them both, its worth it, tho slent hill 3 maybe harder to find than RE4.

silent hill has normal fighting because you're an average person, not some government hired body guard. Silent Hill coud use moe variety ore though, hopefully they will expand on this idea on the 5th game :)

Hey man, I've been playing this genre since it first became viable, and my suggestion to you is either Silent Hill 2( my personal fav. from the series, and wholly independent story from part 1 & 3. Dont touch SH4, it's a bit lacking), or the one series that suprised me was the Fatal Frame series 1-3 (again a personal fav. is FF2, though FF3 is also good and takes an element from SH4). Currently, those are the best true horror games right now ( again only a personal opinion, 'cause I have yet to match the experience on any other "horror" game since)
