Why are people still buying PS2's?

Well, like you mentioned, they are cheap now. Along with that, there is already an extensive library of games for it, and a large number of those games can now be found for really cheap too. So for people who have not purchased a video game console/handheld in a while, the choice is this: get a PS2, and have a large selection of games available to choose from, or get a Wii (assuming you can find one) and only have a very small choice of quality games to play. Also for some people, that ~$100 difference between the two can be a huge deciding factor.

the ps2 has some of the best games ever and it still has 160 new games due to come out so why not get a ps2

Entirely untrue. Wii Sports is amazing when you are drunk and playing with friends.

Anyway, there are still a lot people that haven't experienced the PS2 yet, unbelievable I know, but it's true. The PS2 is now dirt cheap as are all of its games, and SONY manufacters the thing so poorly that they keep breaking so existing owners have to keep rebuying the system, which keeps sales up.

Whats with all these "why isn't the PS2 dead yet?" threads? one answer for them all, supply and demand. The PS2 still has loads of life left and people are still buying games for their PS2's as long as ps2 games still have a market companies will continue to make new ones. It's a simple as that.

They are dirt cheap and if you know what you want to buy meaning the best games you can ebay them or amazon them even cheaper.

Because it's cheap, has the greatest amount of good games of all consoles, and because there's always someone thatdidn'tbrougth oneyet...

Exactly. I have a hugeee backlog of games I have yet to pruchase and play, and they are really cheap, no more than 40 CAD. You have to remember, hardcore gamers always jump on a system within the first year of release but mroe casual gamers wait for a price drop. I know people who solely play sports games so they have no need to rush out and buy a $400+ system. The PS2 is cheap,and has better games then all the next gen systems combined right now. No surprise its still going strong.

I can easily name 10 good games ps2 is getting coming this year and most of the multiplatform games are still supporting ps2 like simpsons,fifa,nfs,merc 2,madden etcthug_angel123

One big reason has to be PS3 backward compability. Personally, if I didn't already own a PS2, I'd get a PS2 rather than a PS3. PS2s are cheap now and the games are easy to find, and the PS3 can't play them (atleast not in Europe). Also I think the games will become harder to come by, so getting them now is a good idea, no?

i couldnt agree with this more. The ps2 has an extensive library of games, as well as an extensive amount of games in each genre for everyone to enjoy. The games are also so abundant that most havnt even began to play the games they have even bought, let alone the games they are yet to buy. This is why i think people prefer to buy the ps2, over the 360, or the ps3. Why pay soo much when you can spend $400 less and get just as much bang for your buck.

(I didn't say better GRAPHICS, I said better GAMES.)

And because this generation was the one that brought console gaming into mainstream popular culture, software will not be hard to find like it is for prior consoles that were still part of a niche hobby.

Over 1400 games, most of them under $20 used, slim has built in network adapter and plays DVDs. Bought an additional controller, eyetoy, and the USB headset for very little. Killer.

For most new gamers all of them are expected to buy a ps2 because they are cheap, good games and like almost everyone has one ps2 wont be dead until 2009 when the ps3 will be afordable for everybody.:D

People around the world aren't as rich as us Americans. In Europe, Asia, and Latin America the price of PS2 has finally dropped to a point where the average person can afford to buy it. We're just so rotten spoiled and used to having all off the best things that we forget about those little things. As long as FIFA is still being published, there will be plenty of PS2's sold around the world.

Another thing...Madden and NCAA Football run WAY BETTER on PS2 than they do on Xbox 360 or PS3...It's unbelievable if you ask me...
