For some, video-gaming is just a hobby and for some others, are just the funniest way of entertaining.

The truth is that you are reading this message in this forum, in this webpage, on this right moment because you love videogames, like me.

For me, videogames provide me tons of laughs, intellectual challenge, intense mind action, living a fantasy, being a hero, being a bad guy, in a word... freedom.

so, what are videogames for you?

Its not just a hobby but an amazing part of my daily life. During the summer I usually play 2-5 hours daily but on school days I am only able to get half an hour. Even since I was eight years old I would play Spyro The Dragon for sometimes 6 hours a day (when my dad was doing yeardwork etc.). I I cannot live without games. I think games are better then movies because of the freedom. Its hard to explain really...

Great Question!! I gotta say I love video games because they build a new world in my head, much like a book or movie. But unlike a book or movie the story and world progresses because I make it. It's just such a wonderful thing to find a gem of a game that you'll think about even when your not playing it.

shouldn't this thread go in the general games discussion? well, anyway, video games to me, are a way to escape reality. to be released from all of my troubles and become immersed into a world filled with action and adventure. the virtual world of video games is like a paradise where people can do everything they ever wanted to do without any consequence. Technology has always interested me whether it was computers or video games or robots or whatever. that may be part of the reason why i love video games so much. But i really can't say the true reason i love video games. mostly because i don't really know the true reason myself.

Well, one reason is because I can't go around running over people and shooting them, hijacking their cars, beating them with macheties and baseball bats, flying planes into buildings, fly, kill monsters with a giant sword because they don't exist and more. Obviously I'm not gonna do any of those things but you get the point. It's fun, it's a great part of my life and I love it.

Although I tried to express my own definition of the reason of why i love video games, I realized in that moment, that I couldn't define it completely. Since it's a emotion it's hard describe it fully with only words.

But I guess, it's about you have already commented guys, it is the sense of living a fantasy without consequences in real life. You can be an epic hero and bring peace to the world, you can beat the bad guys, you can fly, you can meet interesting characters, you can do everything regardless of your looks, age, religion, or ideology. its amazing, isnt it?

There are people who don't like videogames and think they are just a thing for kids. I just think that those people never played a videogame or they didn't played that one they like. Because I think, currently there is videogame for every one uf us out there.

I love video games because when you watch a movie, you sit there and look at a screen. But when you're playing games, you are moving your fingers which doesn't make you as bored. Also, when you play games it can make sadness go away.

It's a huge part of my life. When someone/thing gets me really mad. I usually play my PS for 5 minutes and I'm fine. It helps me vent my stress and rage. lol Better to shoot a digital person than a real one.

it is, at the very least, a good way to destress yourself, especially for a working guy like me. but once in a while, you'd come across something really special and that game would provide a whole new experience otherwise unreachable in everyday life. that's when you know why you like gaming so much.

Although, sometimes video-gaming provides us moments of relief for stress or even a sort of happiness. We cannot use them as the only way of relieving stress since the human being is a social individual, hence, we must solve real problems through communication, patience, listening and healthy human relantioships.

Its not only what i love its also what i wont to do with mylife. My dad always told me to do what love with my life and it took me along time to figure that out, alot of nights laying in bed up all night thinking about whats going to happen to me wen i get older. Me and my brothers have always loved great movies and games but it seems to me that grown in to games more then they have. One of my brothers wonts to become a movie script writer, and now hes about to star in a horror movie called Wrong Way. Me and both of my brothers have always seen are selfs making great movies that really mean something, and i still would love to make my movie ideas into real movies but something tells me that thats not what could truly make me happy in life as meny movie ideas i have there was always something else there that i was thinking about. Now lets face it video games arnt the most respected type of media ( atleast not in my family ) but i think video games can be considered art just as much as movie can, but there stil

sory i couldn't type the hole thing in one box on ps3........... but there still is that depth of emotion that you get from some movies. But im seeing more and more games coming out today that try to grasp that action movie feel and thats what i wont to do with my life i wont make the next step in games and try to write and creat something with a great story with memorable plot twist like Fight Club ( yes i now its a book ) or other great movies like Godfather or Resivordogs and Pulp Fiction but still have that great feeling of playing a game. But if your just asking me why i love video games ........ its just simply because i love them and i always will just like great movies.

Probably bacause is the most engaging media nowadays, Is like a new form of art that for me has the potential to surprass movies and literature in terms of artistic quality mainly because of their interactive nature, games provide us with more interesting stories than most movies and books these days, and also is an awesome way to scape from the real world once in a while....I could say a lot more but I'm lazy:lol:

i agree with you but i think movies and books have much better storys in some cases. have you seen No Contry for Old Men, its the new Cowen brothers movie its one the best movies i have ever seen. and into the wild directed by sean pen. look up thes movies on imdb.com and look at the top 250 movies of all time you mite find something you like. they dont rate the movies its all about the majority of the peoples vote so the most well rated movies of all time are on that list. check it out.

Yea dude, I'm a pretty big movie fan so I know the imdb's top 250, the godfather and schindler's list are some of my favourite movies of all time, No country for old men looks great, But i haven't seen it coz it Has't come out here in Ecuador, we don't get many movies here, The problem is that I've been really dissapointed with the majority of the movies that have come out in the last 10 years, and I think movie making has deteriorated to the point that making money is more important than making a good movie, game makers seem to give more importance to storytelling and with an interactive format we could really see a nice new form of media.

That's party of the reason for myself as well. It's an escape. I do things I can't do, and be things I can't be in real life. Plus, (as said) it's fun! It's not a passive form of entertainment like TV. It requires some input. It plays on imagination. Plus, it's been part of my life for over 25 years.

your right about all that. but thats just the time we live in, its mosty because of publishers and it even happens in games too. but i also think some game publishers wont to have a good story line because they are starting to realise that people wont to se games " excel " if you will into a more serious form of media. aspetioly in japanese games, i think they take games much more seriously then we do. but its still all growing vary fast every where.

Nowadays, video-gaming culture is growing enormously and more people are getting connected with the video-games world. Do you think we love videogames because there is child (for those who are not anymore, like me) still inside in every one of us? can only children or children-like hearted people like video games?

No way ser, that all depends on what game. My little brother and sister like the WII, and they like R&CFTOD but they cant play it its too hard for them. But i play more M rated like FPS's, RPG's, Action Adventure's, and fighting games but my siblings dont even like thoughs types of games. I still play some platformers ounce and awhile and still love them, R&C was one of my first PS2 games along with tekan 4. Most games today are vary m for mature but that still dosent mean that there are allot of childish games and you know what im not afraid to go buy one of thoughs games. I would the new mario game and i mite buy it enles one of my siblings dose.Do you know why because it looks like a vary good game and i love the art design, not only that but mario will be around forever and so zelda.

Because I can't shoot hookers in real life (well I could but you know what I meant). I like games cuz they allow you to do things you wouldn't or couldn't normally do.

The idea that I have full control of what happens in the game, and that im just not watching some one else drive a car or something. The ability to do dangerous things in a computer game without putting myself in any danger. Its like being in your own movie, where you are the hero. Also I just love playing someone else's creation, on which they have spent countless hours just for me, the player.
