yeah mybe you guyz are rite, but lets see ps3 has not fire it's big guns yet, metal gear, final fantasy and on, when they do games will fly out, see ps2 when it 1st came out not much game then BOOM BANG BOOM so many jewels
I highly doubt PS3 will ever get as popular as the PS2 did in terms of sales numbers; reason being the economic slump of the US and increasing fuel prices and cost of living globally. PS2 was an affordable system to many, PS3 on the other hand alot of people refuse to buy it simply because of its price point. The only way I see PS3 ever surpassing PS2 in sales is if it comes down to the 300/200 area pricing point. Even then, I still doubt it will.
The PS3 is affordable. Only poor people can't afford it, very poor people or children with no money. Anyways, I don't think you boys realize this but the PS2 sucked for several years. It was often critisized for its poor hardware quality, jaggies, only two control slots, inferior graphics against the Gamecube and Xbox. But look what happened? Turned out to be the winner. The PS3 has some problems to this day but it is the most stable console of the new generation. It certainly has potential, in fact, there are games in the PS3 that the PS2 can only dream off. Let's see the emotion engine run Oblivion, Uncharted, Ratchet: ToD, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword. No chance in hell.
the ps3 is now almost as affordable as the PS2 when it first came out. However the PS2 was prety much outdated hardware when it was released (compared to PCs), the PS3 is about as good as your high-end pc. So sony really now is losing alot more $ than with the ps2. Also, since the ps3 is a late arrival to the next-gen they are in last place. I dont think the ps3 will ever gain the popularity of the ps2, even if they make all the great games they are talking about. Also it doesn't help that people are still playing the ps2 and many people were originally attracted by the "low cost" dvd player built in. blu-ray players are not as popular as dvd players were, and may not even become the standard Hd video format.
So there's my long answer to why the ps2 will remain the more popular console (im not sure if it was more popular than the ps1, but probably).
All corporations would rather sell one hot dog for 1000$ than sell one thousand hotdogs for 1$. As long as that is their philosophy they will continue to decrease the fan base, and lose developers/support.

As soon as the PS3 gets its killer apps you will see massive numbers of hardware units fly off the shelf. Had it not been for stupidity i would still be waiting to get one until mgs4 or FF13 came out. Presently i have RFOM and thats it.
it will! but it might take a couple more years longer than ps2, the only thing is the price (note as soon as it went down to 399 it outsold 360) one day it will be 349 than 299 then bluray will be mainstream, this is when it can become just like ps2
hmm imo i think without the FFs and other killer apps like MGS4... it'll still not going to boom like ps2 =p i bought wii than ps3 that time coz there is still no FF on PS3.. coz its LIKE FF alone can push me to buy a system.. that is only in my case =p hehe

The xbox 360 and ps3 are much alike the xbox and ps2. Just with additional un-useful features adn people think its great cos there wireless controllers u can buy wireless ps2 controllers and i think you can buy wireless xbox controllers.

You are wrong, the Wii isn't a new idea. Where were you during the smaller golden arcade era of the late 90s to 2000? Hiding in a cave? Motion based games are a dead novel fad from the arcades. All the Wii did is made the elderly play video games. Nintendo turned casual gaming into a whole new level. Also 2.4GHz and bluetooth technology were not the standard in 2001 which is why wireless controllers on the Xbox and PS2 suck. They often lag and required crude ways of recharging them. 2.4 GHz wireless controllers are a blessing.
