It isn't true. The original PS2 was even more sensitive. But I'm not sure about the part if you play it for a long time the CD gets scratched.

I have the ps2 slim, it has never overheated and I've played many marathon sessions 12 + hours. I never had a problem with it scratching my discs either.

I have a slim ps2 and it has only minor problems like the disc open button sticking a little bit. I must be one of the lucky ones because I've never had a ps2 break, or maybe never had one long enough - I've had about four of them in 7 years. Maybe a new slim model and not old would be good.

PS2s are really hit and miss. I have had my ps2 since 2001 and its never so much as had a disc read error, I leave mine on 24/7. On the other hand I have a friend who bought his in 2002 and his stopped playing ps1 games then stopped turning on all together a year later. The model number on the back of the ps2 really makes a difference.
The first slims had problems, they were eventually worked out in later models. The Newest slims are built with different materials to keep weight down. I haven't heard any complaints from these models.
To sum it up, you should be pretty safe buying a new slim. Not to mention its the lightest ps2 out there, so itd be perfect for what you're doing with it.

My first PS2 started scratching disks and so did my mates, but I have never had a problem with any of the Slimline PS2's so i would go for that! And as stigmattickles said it's a lot lighter than the original so easier to transport!

That's not all true, it's easy to carry around and No the cds wont scratch if you play them too much, that's ridiculous. What I am doingis I am waiting for my original PS2 to stop functioning (i've had it for a looooong time)and if it does then i'll consider buying a slim, unless of course I buy a ps3!!

I have a slim and my only problem with it is that there are hardly any modchips that support the newer versions of the slim. Thats a major problem for me because i have a region 1 (US) and i import a lot of Japanese games so i had to go through a little bit of trouble to get a chip i liked into the system. but other than that itsa solid machine. And it won't commit suicide when it gets hot so don't be worried about it.

If I was in your position i would get the bigger version and not the slim version. I purchased the old lunker version when it was $300, in 2001?? Anyways the only problems I ever had with it was in the first few years it would freeze up, but now I think it worked its own bugs out. I am surprised it has lasted this long and hell it might last until 2200!

None of thats true.

It loads faster and doesnt require the gay adapter for the original ps2. Thats all.

Yeah it isn't true with what they say about the slim version being "Sensitive", pick up the slim version if you want. ;)
