I recommend if you haven't already to go pick it up off PSN. Unless you're lucky enough to own the original.

I bought it despite owning a mint condition, black label copy so that I can play it anytime on my PSP. Despite owning a hard copy, this was easily worth the $10, and very likely the best $10 I've ever spent.
The game is as amazing to me today as it was a dozen or so years ago. I find myself ignoring all other games so I can replay this masterpiece.
FFVII is still my favorite JRPG of all time, and easily one my favorite games of all time.
Highly, highly recommended.
[QUOTE="Swift_Boss_A"]I recently bought the game over PSN afteradding some funds to my account. Spent 5 hours playing the game and Ive already forgot about my PS3 titles, including MGS4 :o Still waiting for my MGS1 in the UK Konami :(MJPK
Your not the only one
I still can't put it down... even after so many years it's still absolutely amazing JRPG.
I'd easily recommend the 10$ purchase from PSN over any current JRPG on the market (other then FFVII: Crisis Core).
White Knight Chronicles and FFXIII need to hurry up.
Hopefully Atlus brings Persona series over and we start seeing more quality JRPG's. This generation is absolutely dry.. There still is no next gen quality RPG.. for me at least.
my friend let me borrow his original one a while back so i could try it...i just couldnt get into it, but that might be because i hate the turn based combat. Is there anythingdifferent that willget meinto the downloaded one or is it just the exact same thing?
I have a copy of it already but still bought so I could play it on my PSP. It's perfect for the PSP and still is really fun. I think it actually looks better on the PSP.

Took the words out my mouth..
I still have my original copy... But I bought this one anyways. :D
I'm having a lot of fun with it. This game is a timeless classic. Now if only they'd put FF VIII up on PSN - I really need that one because I lost one of the discs!

You must not have played Valkyria Chronicles then;)
I wonder how many people have downloaded FF7 on PSN, it would be interesting how many people buy it, and how its PSN sales compare to other new games out.
but yes FF7 is my favourite game and I would recommend it to anyone, if they can ignore the old graphics, then they are in for an amazing story.
How long is it? It took me about 50 hours to beat Final Fantasy X, but that's because I grinded for the past five hours or so for fun. :) Still, it is the absolute best PS2 game I have ever played. I may get Final Fantasy VII, but I don't want them to announce a remake just as I beat Final Fantasy VII! Ya know?DeathScape666just to finish the story would take about 30-60 depends on how much you level up

Oh I did mate. I have little over 85 hours into the game.
I was never SPRG fan, one of the reasons why I can't play FF: Tactics for example. Valkyria is not JRPG's I played since PS1 era, it's a SRPG genre changing done very well by SEGA, but it's not Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Xenogears.. etc I could name quite a few more.
Those are the games I want on PS3 and quality JRPG has yet to arrive. I played all current xbox 360 version...from Infinite Discovery, Tales, Star Ocean to Lost Odyssey which includes Eternal Sonata on PS3.
None of those titles kept me going for more then few hours.
I believe Demon's Soul (old school), White Knight Chronicles and of course FFXIII and VS XIII and maybe Dragon's Age will deserve my time and money. ;)

85 hours?! You must've run through the game like 4 times!I bought this on a whim when I was looking for an rpg to play on my PS3. I am glad I did. This is my first foray into the FF series believe it or not and I must say I had no idea what I've been missing. I tend to be more of a WRPG fan, but this game is quickly changing my mind.

I only have a 1 gig memory card for the PSP so I can't play it on the PSP yet. I can do it thrugh remote play but it lags a bit and causes me to attack constantly in battles. Still a great game though. For this playthrough I'm not going to level grind or item hunt like I did all the other times. I'm gonna get right to the meat of the game.

Well, it was the #1 download on PSN until the CoD:WaW Map Pack came out. Now it's #2. So it seems to be selling quite a bit.Noted: Those who have bought or played FFVII in the past are the ones praising it now in this thread. It would be interesting to see an opinion outside of the usual "Best game ever because my memories and 77th playthrough says so" bunch... Like maybe a gamer who's playing FFVII for the first time.Symphonycometh
That's me. I posted above. Ha ha
I don't know how I missed this. lol IMHO, FFVII is a horrible "first" FF game, let alone to get into the genre. Memories of other gamers will never make a dated game like VII stand the tests of time for most gamers. The only ones that will get a "feel" for VII are those who have already played it. And the few exceptions. I played VII years ago, but even as a kid, the melodramas of FFVII irritated me to no end. Oh, IMO.I bought this on a whim when I was looking for an rpg to play on my PS3. I am glad I did. This is my first foray into the FF series believe it or not and I must say I had no idea what I've been missing. I tend to be more of a WRPG fan, but this game is quickly changing my mind.

Well it certainly isn't my first game of the genre. I love RPGs, but I tend to love WRPGs a lot more. There's not a whole lot of them out there, so I pick and choose my JRPGs very carefully. What would be the next best FF game to try out after this one? I've only got a DSi, PS3, Mac, and gamecube so that probably limits it a little bit.

I'd suggest FFVIII. You can still find new copies (Greatest Hits edition) for less than $20.Please Log In to post.
