yeah with 4 layers you can have a 100gb Blue ray if i'm not wrong.
but i beliive ps3 drive can only read up to double layer Blue ray discs(50gb).
i've heard that ps3 could read those quad layer discs with a firmware update but i'm not sure of that either.
[QUOTE="AnFangs_Endes"]Which can be upgraded with firmware updates.teebeenzYeah... no.
IIRC the people who are developing the larger BD's said that it would only take a firmware update to allow current Blu-Ray players to play the larger ones when they come around.
[QUOTE="khalid_b"]it was confirmed awhile back that PS3s are compatible with 100gig BDs. teebeenzNo it was speculated. Till they arrive there is no confirmation.

Not even the 50GB disks are stable. Anyone who tells you they are are full of crap and are getting their biased info from some hole in the wall website.
There still really isn't a need for such large disks. If you actually find out how much space is taken up on most BR disks (games that is) it is very minimal on the 25GB. Folklore has been the biggest so far with just over 14GB used. Warhawk used less then 1GB... waste of a BD if you ask me.
BD can theoretically have up to 8 layers and meaning 200GB... nothing has even come close to being stable with that sort of capacity. Unlike HD DVD which is meant to be a Video Medium, BD is going for a Storage Medium. In the future this might prove useful when games become even more better looking and the soundtracks are uncompressed (which is almost useless for 99.9% of consumers). The problem with big games eventually will lead to not being able to install the game on the HDD to increase load times, rather you will get longer load times.
Also, playing layers above 2 on most players is out the question because that is all hardware based, not software. I mean, if some of you have DVD readers from when they originally came out for you computer, you can't play the DL disks even if you have the most up to date firmware.

To quote Bill Gates:
"No one will need more than 637 kB of memory for a personal computer."
This was said in the 90's I believe. To say that there is no need for such a large disk may be feasible now but in the near future they will be used.

Look up and interview withone of theMGS developers he says the game will push the capacity of the Blu Ray disk, and they couldn't have made the game without it.
