I just picked up a LG monitor and i wanted to see what was the highest setting i could put it on with a HDMI cable, so i played for a bit on 720p and everything worked fine and then i switched it over to 1080p and the games still worked, but everything in the XMB was staticy. Is it downscaling and i just didnt realize it and thats the only reason the games are running? or is the XMB just screwed up?bobbysboobsPost the model of the LG.

Any ideas?bobbysboobsTry restarting your PS3 (standby and then back on). Then, try setting your DVI connection (in the PS3's display menu) to 1080i and test it. Your monitor, supports only 1680 x 1050. So, I'm not sure you can do 1080p.
I believe it wasn't made for that type of output, most high end videocard's produce 1680 by 1050 I believe, which is different from 1920 by 1080.
Heres a best buy info clip which shows its max resolution.
 Maximum resolution: 1680 by 1050
