Anything is better using the native resolution when it comes to high definition whether it's 720i, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. The upscaler of any system doesn't truely upscale to the highest resolution that a TV can handle instead I think that the best it can upscale is maybe a emulated 720i and nothing really more than that. Upscalers can only add a little but not much over the native resolution that it was produced in.
