I know there is a slight difference.  I don't think it really matters which one you use considering you can't really see mach of a difference.

it will most likely depend on the game you are playing, 1080i is not progressive so on fast gmes like maybe racers or big action with explosions 720p will be quicker and it may look better than 1080i would look but progresive will still always technicallly be better and thats what i play most of my games on

What kind of TV do you have? That will dictate what resolution you should be using.

"""A recent study shows 92% of the teenage population likes rap music. If
you are part of the 8% who listen to real music, put this as your sig."""

-------------------------------------

this statement is one of the reasons why 90% of Gamespot members are seen as "dead brain" posters.

So Rap music isn't real music??? whats next , Armstrong never went to the moon? or you still believe that the earth is the centre of the universe.

Back to the topic , Progressive is always better to fast action , like sports and gaming , but if you plan only watching movies interlaced serve you right.

In the end 720p is better solution than 1080i.

Well, if 1080i looks better to you then your problem is solved. Your perception is what counts here.

It all depends on the native resolution of your television. If it is a common 1280x720 or 1366x768 model, select 720p as little or no scaling occurs. If you do 1080i, the panel will scale it down to the native res of the panel anyway, generally a non-scaled image looks the best. On the other hand, if your TV has a native 1920x1080 resolution, use 1080i to get a pixel for pixel reproduction on-screen. Don't select 720p in this case as the TV will upscale the image (read: lose quality)

What he said. There really is no should I use this or use that. There is a right resolution you should use based on the HDTV you have. I have a 720p native HDTV. So, 720p will always be best. Most CRT HDTVs are 1080i native. So, you should use that. The PS3 doesn't scale, so really it doesn't matter. If your HDTV accepts 720p and 1080i, just select both in display settings. Then based on whether the content is rendered in 720p or 1080p will decide what the PS3 sends your HDTV.

seeing how BluRay only plays on 1080i or 1080p i would allow your PS3 to output 1080i, unless you like buying BluRay and watching them in 480.......Just select 720p and 1080i, the content you use (game or BluRay) will decide what is best.. IMO

If you're getting a TV that is 40 inches or bigger then definately get a TV that does 1080p.Â
