I have a 47 inch rear projection HDTV the ones that only support 480p and 1080i and I remember reading before on some post that the ps3 wont upscale the game to 1080i so that means im screwed and have to play 480p. My cousin told me there might be a firmware fix for this. I just wanted to know if this is true because I know resistance only goes up to 720p and I dont wanna play at 480p lol. Can anyone confirm this for me thou I dont own a ps3 but my freind just got one and it will be at my house every now and then id like to know if there really is a fix for this thanks!NeOTeTSuoThere is no fix.
yes they are working on it

does the ps3 have a scaler chip? if not, then you have to wait for a hardware update. see microsoft elite, new and improved, now with hdmi.rowbear

yes the ps3 has a scaler chip did you have to bring xbox elite into this so out of topic elite is a waste of moneyÂ

AFAIK this scaler is just a myth. Why would a scaler exist and do nothing? Makes no sense to me.[QUOTE="Crazy87"][QUOTE="rowbear"]does the ps3 have a scaler chip? if not, then you have to wait for a hardware update. see microsoft elite, new and improved, now with hdmi.Deihmos

because it forces developers to actually learn the hardware and once the scaler is unlocked developers will all of a sudden have alot more power to work with...sony is pretty much doing the same thing with the psp

If that makes sense to you then fine.[QUOTE="NeOTeTSuo"]I have a 47 inch rear projection HDTV the ones that only support 480p and 1080i and I remember reading before on some post that the ps3 wont upscale the game to 1080i so that means im screwed and have to play 480p. AFAIK this scaler is just a myth. Why would a scaler exist and do nothing? Makes no sense to me. The PS3 was rushed. Pure and simple. Its software and firmware complement is incomplete. It has the scaler--there's an article on Beyond3D that describes the horizontal scaling functionality that Sony enabled a while ago--but Sony never finished the firmware for it, so it's partly inactive. It's like the HDMI 1.3 functionality of the PS3's HDMI port: inactive until patched in the future. You really should read about Sony's ridiculous "horizontal scaling" fix. It absolutely REEKS of being a bandaid fix. Basically, instead of automatically scaling a 1280x720 in-game frame directly to 1920x1080 for 1080p or 1080i output, game developers have to add in a feature to their game that causes the game engine to render at a wonky, horizontally squished resolution of 960x1080. Then the PS3's internal scaler scales the image horizontally, doubling the 960 vertical lines out to 1920 lines while keeping the 1080 horizontal lines unchanged. This REQUIRES the game developers to implement the 960x1080 resolution, though. It's not like the 360's scaler which automatically scales 1280x720 both vertically and horizontally to 1920x1080. The problem with this is that a 960x1080 frame has *slightly* more pixels than a 1280x720 image, so there WILL be a performance cost involved (about 15%) for games that were originally designed to run at 1280x720 but were later patched to add the scaling support.i just got my ps3 3 weeks ago and i have one of those 480/1080 tv's and i used an hdmi cable to connect my ps3 with my tv, and i am actually playing nhl 2k7, and resistance in 1080i, and i can actually prove this, im just too lazy right now, but seriouslly, what im saying is true.tsr__You're completely full of it

AFAIK this scaler is just a myth. Why would a scaler exist and do nothing? Makes no sense to me. actually if you would do your research there are websites like beyond3d that have one stories on the so called "myth". its going to be updated. its one of very few things that needs to be bandaged hardware wise, and once the firmware is released to update it everything will be just right.[QUOTE="tsr__"]i just got my ps3 3 weeks ago and i have one of those 480/1080 tv's and i used an hdmi cable to connect my ps3 with my tv, and i am actually playing nhl 2k7, and resistance in 1080i, and i can actually prove this, im just too lazy right now, but seriouslly, what im saying is true.jth182You're completely full of it NO he is not. His TV is a 1080i tv that SUPPORTS 720p (only way it would work) so it takes the 720p input and converts it to 1080i. Most tv's can do this except for a few older ones which is why Sony didn't care about the upscaling.......If this isn't how it works then he is full of it :) My tv does the same - just set the ps3 to output 1080i and 720p - tv does the rest......
