Here's my PROOF :D. btw i just posted em out randomly so i dont know which is without upscaling or which is with. you're see yourself, its quite obvious.

Well that's all folks. Xenosaga and a bit of Star ocean. It looks a lot better with the jaggies are smoothed out. THat's 1.8 for ya!

Yeah the firmware kicks a$$ and glad sony is doing a great job with the updates, why wait a whole year for updates when they can do them like this. I dont care what ppl say, atleast we know sony is trying to keep there consumers happy. Thanx for the comparison pics TC. Great job on them, u can clearly see the game looks more better with the upscaling. :)

Just got the update PS2 games look wicked with the AA and Upscaler. They look smooth as butter and the Full Screen mode fixes the ugly SD overscan issue. They even added RGB Full Range so I didn't have to keep chaging it everytime I switch from game to BD. Sony rules

if u have an SDTV and composite cables (red, white, yellow) then no your dvd's and PS2 games will NOT be upscaled, However, your PS2 games will be smoothed so you can still view them smoother than before, but upscaling means you play the DVD or PS2 game in High Definition, 720p or 1080i/p. Since your TV cant handle HD, you can't upscale to a higher resolution than your TV can handle

bad quality and the pictures are all shrunk. On a large HDTV, the difference is a lot more noticeable

Look closely at the images look for straight lines, you'll notice on the regular version the infamous stairs of death. Aka jaggies. Take a look at picture #7 where the chick is holding some tea look at her shoulder what is suppose to be  diagonal black line looks like a giant stair case with steps. Now look at the upscaled AA version you'll notice that her shoulder line is just one diagonal line with no steps or stairs.

i dont understand y was this update only was worth 1 point over the previous version, but when we jumped up like 4 points in the march update the only thing that was changed was background downloading??!?!? Now i am no cpu whiz, but i would think that with all of the neat features we got with this update it would've put us at least at 1.9 or something like that. All aside of that this update IMHO was the best update 4 the ps3 yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can't play the game in 720p, 1080i or 1080p... upscaling resolution isnt native resolution... what you do it's to play game upscaled in a high definition signal

That god of war pic from the link is way improved much more than I'm getting. So far the upscaling looks the same as when I turn on progressive to get 480p in-game. The PS2 smoothing is whats improving the quality. Turn off the PS2 smooting and those pictures are identical.

I'm now playing 'The Blue Planet on DVD in 1080i and it looks no different than 576p to me.

Yep i' really struggling to notice any real difference.

As for the GOW pic if you notice Kratos is further back which will help smooth the AA. I agree with Bamf03 most of the improvements we are seeing are due to the new smoothing option.

Think about it if you set you PC screen desktop res to 640x480 and then change it to 1024x768 the difference is huge let alone supposedly increasing it to 1920x1080.

In addition I am along with many others still getting small black bars either side of the screen so if the image was truly being upscalled these would not exist.

Somethings just don't add up i'm afraid.

I wonder if it works better on UK machines that use the software emulation?

I'm in the UK and will get balck bars on either side only on 4:3 DVD's in normal upscaling mode. There is double and full mode in the upscaling. double mode will slightly make the screen bigger, seems pointless as we're talking only slightly and full mode will stretch to fill the widescreen TV which makes it worse in my opinion.
