This is just one title I don't think I can put any faith in critics about. It seems like a title that is only going to give you as much as you are willing to put into it, and most of the negative critics don't seem to be willing to learn the controls.

First off 1up and egm who gave lair really low scores, are one in the same. SO I can't really trust these guys till I see Ign and gamespot score it myself.

Yes, they are the same guys. The EGM review of the game seemed petty to me, personally. They complained about the controls in a way that sounded like they didn't bother actually learning them.

Yea he was like "oh it looks like something out of LoTR" But how is that a bad thing? Shouldn't it resemble it if its the same genre? Yea they bashed the hell out of it. But it only seems like the opinion of a hater.

If lair gets a good score from everywhere else they need to be fired... Whats wrong with lotr? My god that was a great book, a great movie, and some of the games were awesome...

No surprise. I didn't see much beyond the graphics. The ground-based gameplay looked waaaay out of balance, sky-based gameplay seemed random and redundant, and the announcement of SIXAXIS-only controls was insult to injury.

oh well.

Despite not caring too much for the opinions of those working at 1UP I think there might be some issues with the fact that the game is controlled via the sixaxis... I really feel the game wont control very well without spending a great deal of time getting used to the motion controls and thats why I think it will get lower scores. All they needed to do was allow for analog sticks to be used (an option would be nice) and the game would have been golden but since the announcement of sixaxis only I have had my doubts.

I think it will get around a 7-7.5 on both IGN and gamespot.

whats wrong with the six axis. I have one of the first unfixed controllers yet i am fully capable of winning online motorstorm races using sixasis fully. its not that hard to use. People just go crazy with the movement like they did with the wii. All you have to do is slightly turn it nothing more than that.

besides im sure they could have a sensitivity control for the sixaxis that would help alot for people who cant grasp the six axis

I agree, I think SIXAXIS is awesome. Motorstorm played so well, it took me a good hour to get used to it, but once I got it, I never really want to play another racer without it. I think LAIR will be great. If you take the time to learn the functions, I bet one will be able to do so much more with all the available buttons. This is a weird example, but I remember when I first started playing MGS2. I was so overwhelmed by all the moves, such as holding people up and the other new moves, I thought I would not get it, but that is now one of my favorite games and controls very very well. I'm hoping the best for LAIR.

The thing I wish everyone would remember is that game reviews are one persons opinion of the game. That's the reason I don't let a review decide if I play a game, it might make me decide to play it later but still I want to play the games I find interest in without consideration of how good or bad they are. Not to sound preachy, but I think if people would do the same more often, gaming could go further faster, even crappy games are the product of massive man hours, being a crappy programmer myself, keeping that in mind to me justifies playing all of the games I am at least curious about. Game developers are our front line in the war against boredom.

Its funny how the guy is like "WHERE IS THE RADAR???"

He wants a dragon to be equiped with a Magical Crystal Ball radar or something lol. What a fool. I think the guy doesn't like LoTR b/c he bashes that stuff too. A fantasy hater reviewing a fantasy game...just great huh.

So, Lair is basically is just a rehash of Rogue Squadron with a dragon mod, it has a boring artstyle, the box art looks like something ripped out of LOTR, It looks like somebody poored chocolate all over it, there's no dragon radar. And there's a later mission where you have to trip At-At elephants. On the positives, motion controls are good, ground combat is satisfying, the scope is grand and ....Bio Shock rocks. That's basically all I got out of that podcast.

***NEWS ALERT***.

1up = EGM = gamespot.

All 3 are owned by CNET. (EGM is publshed by Ziff-Davis; Ziff-Davis is owned by CNET). So expect a low review of Lair from gamespot (that is if gamespot follows the company line).

But CNET itself (the parent company of 1up, EGM and Gamespot) seems pretty fair towards the ps3. Its only the gaming site/magazine subsidaries that seem to show anti-ps3 bias.

Totally untrue. EGM and gamespot are independant of one another. EGM editors used to post reviews on Gamespot. The following review was posted by James Mielke (a former EGM editor and current 1up editor).

http://www.gamespot.com/ps/adventure/metalgearsolidintegral/review.html

Even though this review is ancient, it proves that EGM and GS are NOT independant of one another.

Another EGM editor posting a review on GS (the editor is Crispin Boyer):

http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/sagafrontier/review.html

Again, the review is old but gamespot and EGM are definately ***NOT*** independant of one another. To say EGM doesn't influence GS or vice versa is very foolish and very naive.

umm like you said but that was a an old post... the reviewers on egm have stayed off gamespot for quite some time... you gotta realize that is from a while ago and they USED to post on gamespot but they don't anymore. Given the fact that they are not completely independent of each other you gotta look at the scores that each site give for some games... They are completely different scores and opinions... Just because you found one connection doesn't mean it will affect another one...

However, I will give you some credit on it. Egm and ign may have influence over gamespot but I don't think they will imo.

Egm and ign may have influence over gamespot but I don't think they will imo.

where does ign come in? i said 1up = EGM = Gamespot.

***NOT** 1up = ign = EGM = Gamespot.

[QUOTE="fistoflight"]First off 1up and egm who gave lair really low scores, are one in the same. SO I can't really trust these guys till I see Ign and gamespot score it myself.xuimod

Yes, they are the same guys. The EGM review of the game seemed petty to me, personally. They complained about the controls in a way that sounded like they didn't bother actually learning them.

That is becasue DAN DAN FAN FAN SHU SHU is an 360 Fanboy he has even admitted this in on the podcasts that there is no reason to buy a PS3 when he has his 360... and this is the guy reviewing games for us...hell he is the editorso there you go...

IMO I think they are anti ps3... thats all I'm gonna say about them for now...

Like I just mentioned 1up = EGM = Gamespot (see previous post for more detail). They all (esp gamespot and EGM) a certain bias (u know which way) in this next-gen 'war'.

But CNET itself (the parent company of 1up, EGM and Gamespot) seems pretty fair towards the ps3. Its only the gaming site/magazine subsidaries that seem to show anti-ps3 bias.

Yes they are owned by the same parent company but the guys that run the sites are different...

Totally untrue. EGM and gamespot are independant of one another. EGM editors used to post reviews on Gamespot. The following review was posted by James Mielke (a former EGM editor and current 1up editor).

No. Garnet Lee (DORK) is on that podcast. He's part of the NOOBS that gave Lair a 5.5. Forget him! He sucks!
