Inspired by the Brutal Legends thread, I thought I'd feel out some opinions on some other notable $20 games.

Assassin's Creed - Heard it was very repetitive from some, others said they didn't notice because of the great story, and others still said they preferred it to AC2. Is it worth $20?

Prince of Persia - I'll be honest: I haven't playedany of the 3D Prince of Persia games. They've always seemed to do quite well though, and I thought I'd give the series a try for $20. Good deal?

Bionic Commando - I know next to nothing about this game, just that some seem to sneer at it, while others say they enjoyed it. Might not be a mainstream title, but is it worth $20?

Fracture - Again, don't know too much. DL'd a trailer on the PSN, looked okay, though not the kind of game I'd pay full price for. That said, it's on for $15, not $20. Opinions?

There are a few others, like your standard old sports titles and another shooter or two, though I forget exactly which. Are any of the above games worth the price drop?

Edit:Ironically, I mispelled"Titiles" in the title...

The only ones I've played that you listed are AC and Prince of Persia and I wouldn't recommend either.

If you have played Assasins Creed 2 then its just hard to play the first one. All of its flaws are just more glaring and annoying when you see the second one has improved on everything.

I think Prince of Persia is fun, great platforming and an interesting combat system that is different from the norm.

I've never played AC2 (and won't until it comes down from the ridiculous $69 price tag.) I do plan on getting it, so maybe AC1 will make me appreciate AC2 all the more when I finally get it, neh?

And yeah, Prince of Persia looks decent, especially if you consider the price.

Bionic Commando was $9.99 at Newegg. Well worth that price. I wouldn't pay $19.99 knowing it could be had for $9.99 though. Unfortunately Newegg is now sold out, but sometimes even on the $9.99 titles they go out of stock and then weeks later they appear again (happened with Mirror's Edge, I bought it for $9.99 after it was listed as "sold out" for weeks)

Paid $60 for Assassin's Creed on release. At the time, I didn't read reviews and I wasn't a member of any online gaming forums, so I didn't notice any repetition (ignorance is bliss). Looking back, I can see where people would get bored of it, but the story was enough for me to keep playing.

I never really expected any kind of huge amount of diversity, just violence and free roaming.

The dialog can get a bit... convoluted, at times, but it's not really a big deal if you can appreciate the game as a whole.

Bionic Commando was surprisingly good. I'm glad I gave it a chance. It was a bit generic (particularly the story). But it was for the most part a good game (if you just look at the gameplay). The weapons were weaksauce, but the use of the grappling hook was badass. Overall there was nothing really terrible about it other than it's generic/uninspired voice acting and story.

Well ya know, I recently bought and completed Uncharted 1, and I thought it was fantastic. Some people have said that the gunfights are repetitive compared to the sequel, that it's more or less the same scripted event over and over, but in different locations. I enjoyed it, but maybe that's because I played it first, rather than UC2. The same could be true of Assassin's Creed 1&2, playing 'em backwards makes you see every flaw of the first because you're used to all the tunings and tweaks of the sequel.

Oh! Remembered another $20 title, Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Besides the ability to manipulate boobies with the controller, is it worth $20 as an action game?

Huh... yeah, on here, Uncharted was the greatest thing the PS3 had to offer until U2 came out. I'm pretty sure everyone hated AC even before AC2, also. I had never seen so many "wau! bettr den da first won!" threads until it came out.

The booby thing is Sigma 2. NGS is a pretty solid game if you haven't played it on Xbox yet - definitely worth $20.

Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed are solid bargain titles.

I would suggest Armored Core For Answer, pretty much the only decent mech game that's out there until Front Mission Evolved.

I have seen it once in Rogers Video (only for rent), and once in EB Games where it was 54.99. Wherever you are buying it for $20 -- pick me up a copy, I'll pay you $10 to do so :P

Assassins Creed bored me pretty quickly, i never played bionic commando or Fracture but neither looked all that impressive to me. Prince of Persia was a good game though nice graphics, simple and fun gameplay and good dialogue between the prince and Elika however it was pretty short game. for 20 bucks though id def recommmend it

The Orange Box is only good for Portal and Half Life 2. If you want to play TF2, do it on PC. The lag is absolutely horrendous on the PS3 and the community is almost dead, whereas TF2 on PC is still pretty active.

Like most people said,AC was extremely repetitive. but some people really enjoy repetitive combat in that game, so the bottom line is it depends.

-Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a geat action game, so no action fan should miss it.

- Dead Space

- Skate 2

- Bournout Paradise

- Battlefield Bad Company

- Red Faction Guerilla

- Chronicles of Riddick assault on dark athena

- Stranglehold

Ah, kay. I've tried and beat Portal many times recently. (The length of the game hurts me. It was sooooo godly. :( ) I'll take a look around and try to buy it on PC. Thanks guys.

I always find turning to cheap priced games is not always the answer. Unless it's a great game that came out a long time ago, then that might be the exception.. Using the $20 or less price tag to try out games that flopped.. isn't wise. Go for better, old games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Orange Box, BioShock, but don't bother with the games that didn't deserve your $60 in the first place. I wouldn't recommend Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia either like the other post said. Both, extremely repetitive games.. and dull.

Eventually EVERY game falls under $20. Obviously some games are so bad that they aren't even worth your TIME, regardless of price. There are definitely games that maybe were not worth $60, but are absolutely worth $10 or $20. I can come up with a huge list of games I've bought for less than $20 and I've rarely been disappointed. Usually I check for reviews first.

Unless the game is REALLY bad, it's usually going to be at least a year old before it hits $19.99 anyway.

Of those games I've played Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia, and strongly recommend you stay away from both titles. Assassin's Creed is ridiculously repetitive and hampered by countless "WTF?!" design choices, while Prince of Persia is just ridiculously easy. Obviously if neither of those factors bother you, than feel free, but I rate both very poorly.

Burnout Paradise, you can get hours and hours of gameplay out of it. And if you get the $30, Complete Edition, then you can easily get 100+ hours of gameplay if you want to finish everything 100%. Oh, and it's really fun too :P

If you have played Assasins Creed 2 then its just hard to play the first one. All of its flaws are just more glaring and annoying when you see the second one has improved on everything.

I think Prince of Persia is fun, great platforming and an interesting combat system that is different from the norm.

Khadaj32

I've never played AC2 (and won't until it comes down from the ridiculous $69 price tag.) I do plan on getting it, so maybe AC1 will make me appreciate AC2 all the more when I finally get it, neh?

And yeah, Prince of Persia looks decent, especially if you consider the price.

Bought it from my GameStop two days ago. Brand new.

Regarding AC my take on it is the same of Scianix's , I wouldn't notice the now noticeable repetition of it I didn't start reading reviews and going on game forums , so maybe if you opne your mind you may find it very enjoyable as I did back then. Now regarding PoP you said you've never played any of its 3d versions so my advice is , DON'T BUY IT as it doesn't reperesent any of the other 3D PoPs ever released (ps2 and psp) , wait for the new one which I forgot the name (of course it won't be 20$ :P).Now I'd suggest you , if you're into fps , Condemned 2 (kinda horror too) , Call of Juarez : Bound in Blood and for action Devil May Cry 4 , NGS , Uncharted:Drakes's Fortune , Heavenly Sword....

Well I'm sure there are more , the are the ones that came on top of my head :P
