I agree with you on Killzone 2. I personally think that underneath the great graphics lies a painfully ordinary shooter. QuebecSuperstarGlad to see someone who is not blinded by the hype.

Oh well, to each their own. I'm sure a great bunch of people will enjoy the game, whether they succumbed to the hype or not.
By the way, how do you pronounce "Musashi"? M-YOU-ZA-SHEE or M-OO-ZA-SHEE? (just curious)

I personally felt that Resistance 2 was seriously the top overhyped game for 08. I was bought it day 1 & was very interested in seeing where the sequel would take me. I would have to say that this game wasn't that much of a change for me than the first game (I am pretty sure I will see most of you disagreeing with me on this, but I respect your opinions). Now as for 09, I would have to say the game I feel that is being extremely overhyped is Killzone 2. I played the demo & did not see one thing that made me say "OMG THIS GAME IS A MUST BUY!!!". I have been following this game for sometime now & have come to my own conclusion that this game is just hyped off of the graphics (Which I honestly don't see as jaw dropping). At the end of the day this is just my opinion & hopefully the fanboys stay clear from this thread. MusashiSensiHAZE Would be my most overhyped game of all time !!!!!!!!!!! for 2008 :)
KillZone 2 is wihtout a doubt overhyped, but I think God of War III will be even worse in term of hype.
While I already pre-ordered KillZone 2, I didn't do so because of the graphics. At first I heard a great shooter coming to the PS3 I was like "good, I needed a multiplayer, online and especially offline, shooter" because I don't have any at the moment. Then people started to talk about the graphics, which I had never paid attention to. Great graphics, but that doesn't make the game for me, I'm just hyped about a potentially great multiplayer FPS.
I don't think anyone should be able to judge whether or not Killzone 2 is all hype yet because now of us have had a chance to play it yet. you can't say a game doesn't deserve the hype it's getting before you even play it.dberg9292
Well, like I said, I played both the beta (multiplayer) and the demo (single campaign) so my opinion didn't come from thin air. I genuinely didn't like my experience.
im going to disagree about it being kz2 because the hype is just what each person believes or listens too honestly. I played and liked the first Killzone in 2004 and have been waiting for the sequel for about 5 years now. Now since then yes there has been critics gawking at the graphics and people too, and I am one to do the same, but I, as weel as many (im sure), have not been calling this the perfect game that will destroy all.
Hype, and anticipation is not a bad thing whatsoever, and just because people hype a game up does not mean they are going to be dissapointed. I am stoked for this game! and after the demo I am definitly not dissapointed at all. Hell, i look back at old games on ps2 and ps, and i know that a lot of hard work went into this.
No dissapointment here, and i am quite excited, and to say anyone excited for kz2 is a sheep following the hype is not only an insult but an ignorant remark. Plenty others, including me, are just plain old looking forward to what i consider and what could very well be considered a fantastic sequel in all ways.
From '08, most hyped game, as someone else said, would definitely be Haze. Everybody thought it was going to be the best ever, and it ended up sucking. Not Res 2 for me, unlike most, I thought the first was..."Oh, yea...Resistance....hmm...I'm going to go play HL2!" But the devs successfully made a sequel that blew away the first in all respects.
For 09, I would say Killzone 2, but I was in the beta, enjoyed it very much, and will be purchasing it. I am buying not just for the beautiful graphics (big selling point though, hehe) but for the gameplay, I love how "heavy" and weighted everything feels, it seems more realistic, and hell, it's just a lot of fun. Destructive environments, AI, great multiplayer, I'm sold.
So, what is my most overhyped game for '09? Probably Resident Evil 5. It is the EXACT same game I played on that little lunchbox known as Gamecube those couple years ago. That game was great, amazing even, but I don't need to buy it again.
I agree that killzone has been overhyped but hype or not I AM still gonna get it because i liked the first one and liberation so i don't think that they could do something so bad that i wont like it. by the way What happened to Secondary Fire?!?!KrzyJoe
Secondary fire as in the weapons having alternate firing modes? Seriously, thank God someone else notices this, and misses it. I'm sure we could still aim and fire off an alternate firing mode with our controllers, several (but sparse) games have done it this gen.
But, I'm sure we can all agree on one thing. It's gunna s*** on halo3. =pPureDante
I already did that .. personally ..
Absolutely in agreement - Killzone 2 sure is pretty but it's just another shooter. Don't we have enough of those? I can't believe Sony thought it was a good idea to let some of the better third party properties go in favour of focusing on shooters. Geez.DJ_Lae
Shooters = Money .. Money = Everything ..

Maybe, I really wouldn't make a statement like that. Halo 3 was groung breaking in the fact that it recorded campaign and multiplayer matches and you could go through and watch with a good amount of options, free roam camera and player focused camera. Now, Halo 3 is not my type of shooter but the replay feature really impressed me. It's hard to dispute the over hype of K2 simply because there is so much noise going on around it's release. I'm buying it (have it reserved) and I think it will be good but it's going to be hard to say it will live up to the hype as in the quoted post. For 08 I'll have to go with HAZE as well, I didn't find it to be as bad as alot of people thought but it definitely wasn't the FPS killer it was made out to be.

True, I gotta admit, Halo was definately ground breaking, but it's a definate fact that Killzone will be a milestone in fps history.Hmm, I would have to say LittleBigPlanet in 2008. I bought it, even liked it.... but after a week or two, I put it down for good. What a waste of money! Resistance 2 was fairly overhyped as well but a decent game, and as far as the 360 is concerned, I feel that Gears 2 was even more overhyped and I did not enjoy it much at all. In 2009, Killzone has a lot of hype, but I feel as if I will enjoy it quite a bit. I haven't played Flower yet, but for the amount of hype surrounding that PSN title, is there any way it could possibly be as good as it was suppose to be... probably not.
I know Musashi just said dont say anything about other consoles but i really enjoyed Halo 1&2 but 3 was truly horrible i think albeit still groundbreaking for FPS and thats what KZ2 is going to do, its going to be groundbreaking and based on what i have played it wont suck, not for me at least.
And i miss secondary fire! that was great! oh well, they still did so much right with it. For biggest let down of 2008 im going to say Brothers in Arms Hells Highway. and for 2009...i don't think its fair to assume what game is going to suck honestly.
Whoa. I am not saying what games will suck for 09. I was just telling people to write what they think will be overhyped for 09 from the games we know are coming our way.I know Musashi just said dont say anything about other consoles but i really enjoyed Halo 1&2 but 3 was truly horrible i think albeit still groundbreaking for FPS and thats what KZ2 is going to do, its going to be groundbreaking and based on what i have played it wont suck, not for me at least.

I agree with both you. I think it's just another FPS with nothing too special other than nice graphics. I'm certainly not one to judge other gamers' tastes in games, so I hope the people who are hyping it enjoy it immensely. For me personally though, it seems over-hyped.
As for 2008, I'm not sure if it was hyped a lot, but LBP wasn't as awesome as people claim it to be. I really like it, but it can get a tad boring if you have no one to play with. Granted, that may be my fault, but you can't always play online.

Exactly! You can't base your thoughts on a game by the demo. Ex. Resistance 1...
