2nd ps3 just dies on me.

Bought a slim about 6 momnths ago to replace my 40gig that died and now my slim has cr@ped out on me. was working great last night,got up today to play some Fallout NV and when i put the disk in and wait for it to load the disk drive makes a funky sound. kind of like the sound it makes when you first put a disk in. and then nothing happends. got it to play a couple times to day but now even when i get the disk icon to load up it just goes to a black screen and stays there. and yea i take care of my systems lol. and to top it all off i cant find my reciept. i bought it at gamestop with the ext warrenty but they say they wont accept it with out a receipt as they dont keep that record past 30 days....yea right yet they can keep track of preorders for months. so im also assumeing sony will charge me for repairs as i dont have a reciept. im getting real sick of my playstations dieing on me. Does any one know a reputable place other than sony to send it for repairs?

I'd try find that receipt man. Search the whole damn house if you have to :P

If you payed at GS with a cc get the cc statement and take it in. It will have the date and the extended warranty should be called out as a separate line item. This should suffice with GS to get your PS3 covered under the warranty. A reciept does not always have to be the original bill of sale...think outside the box my friend.

Try to find a different game specialized shop besides Gamestop cuz they are acting way too cocky.

I know a small local gameshop here where I live that repairs YLOD's, RROD's or faulty lenses for just 50 euros or something and you don't need a receipt or anything. You just have to bring your console there and the next day you can pick it up again.

Try to look for something like that. Something smaller and less professional than Gamestop thinks to be.

Hence I am glad to have my old 60 gb PS3.

Remember, receipts are always best to save somewhere after purchase UNTIL the warranty expires.

Also, is your PS3 10.8cm far away from the wall behind and is in between 10-30c room temperature? If yes, then you haven't broke the "rules" in the guide.
Remember to clean the system from dust too, don't use a vacuum cleaner though because those will damage the system.

thx 4 the advice guys. yea my ps3 is in a well vented area. i have a window AC that i keep set on 65f so it stays very cool in my room. i cant figure why im haveing these issues. i normaly keep my reciepts in a lock box under my bed but for what ever reason the recipt is not there. o well. i do wish sony would put some more effort in to quality control on there hardware.

To sell you the plan they tell you if you ever have a problem just bring it back and they'll fix it, and when you do come back they tell you that your particular plan doesn't cover the failure. If they do honour the warranty they give you a refurbished unit instead of your old unit, and who knows how long that unit will last? And on top of it the only record of your warranty is on a little piece of paper with ink that fades away after a couple months. Total BS if you ask me.

The warranty is saved in the computers at gamestop under the serial number of your system. As long as you have a serial number they can look up when you got the warranty and if it is still under warranty.

Not sure why they told you that you couldn't without a receipt because you can with systems under warranty. It would be different if it was the free 30 day warranty, but when you bought the extended they put your serial number in the computer. Just bring your system in and plop it on the counter. If they say they need a receipt tell them what I told you and if they still say it can't be done tell them to call another store and get instructions on how to take them a return on it,

You'd really have to read the plans yourself, because sales rep will tell you anything to get a sale. It's none of their concern what happens afterwards.

lol you lot are unlucky i still have my 40 gb and i have had it more then 2 years

ok i took back the ps3and they gave me a new one in return. im about to hook it up. i did have to pay another 40 bucks for a new warrenty though as you can only use the warrenty once which is really lame. but at least i have a new ps3 slim. now to install my trusty western digitel 320gig HDD that has out lasted 2 ps3's lol.

and cajun was right. you dont need your recipt. they can get the number off the ps3 and look it up on there pc. the girl i talked to just did not know what she was talking about lol. if all goes well i'll be exploring the new vages wiast lands tonight ;)

Glad you have it worked out, but yeah don't belive everything CSRs tells you because often they have less knowledge about the product than you do.

thanks. yea im pretty happy. i even got a 160 gig modle instead of the 120. im going to keep the 160gig drive in it as im woundering if my 320 gig drive is bad luck lol. I'll tell you what, i think my old system was dieing a slower death than i realized. i had noted a couple months ago that it seemed to be loading the disk a lot slower than it did when it was new. it was takeing between 30 sec and a full min to load a game disk in the xmb. i thought maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me. but no, this system loads the disk up in maybe 10 seconds. hopefully this one will be a bit more lucky. wish me luck ;)
