I was thinking of updating my 40GB PS3 to the new 3.30 FW,but it seems that this update has caused some problems to many PS3 systems, there's a link here that points out some of those problems,so should I update my PS3 to the 3.30 FW or wait for Sony to fix those problems with a new FW update first?

Thanks.

its just as safe as any other update. go ahead and get it. the people reporting a problem most likely just had an unrelated problem and are blaming it on this.

But there are lots of people who are complaining about that update,it can't be a coincidence with that many people reporting problems at the same time after updating.

Seriously, what's wrong with Sony releasing FW updates that damage many PS3's? It's like a disease that infects PS3's.

After I updated to 3.30, my car broke down, I lost my job and my wife left me. I blame Sony for this!

Seriously though, I don't think there's been an update that hasn't had people complaining about it breaking their systems. Systems break EVERY day, updates just give people a reason to blame it on!

But,like I've mentioned already,it's hard to believe that all of those PS3's breaking and having problems after updating to FW 3.30 are just coincidences, right?

Exactly. It wouldn't. A firmware update has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with a burnt out lens. That is purely coincidence.

I've had my PS3 for a month shy of 3 years, updated my console the day of or the day after all firmware updates, and I haven't had a problem.

Go download the update; it's fine.

If EVERY ps3 crashed after an update, all at the same point of booting up or after the same amount of time of playing, then yes, there's something wrong with the update. But the thing is, after EVERY update where people moan it's broken their systems, it's supposedly done different things at different times.

Perfect case in point is on this very thread, where one guy says he updated, and then his lens burnt out. If he hadn't updated, I'm 100% sure his lens would've burnt out anyway, but now he has an update to blame it on! Someone else will say it's caused the YLOD, and someone else will say it's caused his system to overheat, and then there'll be someone else who's got yet another problem. Chances are, if they hadn't updated, then they'd have got these problems anyway. Just download the update, and move on! 3.30 has been out a while now, so get back to some online gaming!!!!!!!!

Every time the firmware update happens, some ninny freaks out and says the sky is falling... Wow. Trolling at it's finest, and you took the bait...

I've had my PS3 for almost 3 years. Never any problems whatsoever.

I updated my PS3 to 3.30, restarted, and now it will not read any kind of disc.

Sorry but I find that hard to believe that it is just a "coincidence"

Ive turned my ps3 on and off thousands of times, but the one time it breaks is immediately after an update. . .

I've been reading a lot of forums and people are having this same problem with the fat 60gb ps3 (same as mine)

I just upgraded the firmware on my 120GB slim from 2.76 to 3.30 today. Tried a few things and no issues so far. I hope it stays that way. My PS3 is not connected to the Internet and never has been. Maybe when I get a bigger place I will look at doing that.

a firmware does not burnout your laser. that is like blaming the service department that your wheels went flat after getting an oil change

I updated my 60 gig within the first hour or so it was released and now it runs just as good as it ever has. It seems that every update and most game or any other software that's run on the PS3 does something to a lot of PS3's.
