...including my Yobo that I used for connecting old PS2 controllers / guitars / etc. I also used it to XIM. Seems in their quest to stop the Jailbreak folks, anyone who uses an unlicensed adapter gets borked since they updated what the USB ports will accept.

I'm not a happy camper.

What about mine? Mine is the Geotech which was designed for the PS3 and is much better than the official one if you ask me, i once took it off to charge and forgot i had done, so was trying to speak and wondered why it wasn't working, thats how great it is Here. Probably heard of it or seen it around.

The only stuff which will stop working is third-party crud that wasn't given permission by Sony to be used with the PS3. I it was sold to you in a store, you'll be fine. I commend Sony for being harsh on unlicensed garbage. Piracy is the reason they raise prices, and online hacks are the reason leaderboards don't mean a thing. I miss my LogiTech wireless (I liked the size, heft, etc. of it) but if it means giving douches a way to mess up my price points or online play, I'll gladly give it up. These people who're crying about he mod because they want to innocently "back up" their purchases on the HDD are so full of it their eyes are a deep BROWN.

Bluetooth is a standard. To make it so only Sony headsets would work for voice chat would be a blatant violation of standards compliance. I would previously say no corporation would be stupid enough to do such a thing, but then again... this is $ony we're talking about... who so deliberately chose to alienate migrators to their console by removing compatibility for their most successful product since entering the gaming business.

Third Party Bluetooth headsets are banned too?

That sucks if so.

Edit: Also, does this mean third party guitar controllers (like the Warbeast) don't work anymore? TC's wording is a bit too unclear for me to understand. Is he just talking about the Yobo adapter which he uses to connect his guitar or the guitar adapter itself?

this thread is getting out of control. sony disabled one illegitimate device, and throughout the course of this thread people are now concerned that store bought, licensed third party accessories are going to be unusable as well. calm down all, everything will be alright. lol.

No they didn't...they borked over 75% of 3rd party USB devices. Read around the sites. This is a huge issue.

In fact, here's Sony's official statement -- and anytime they say something may "explode or ignite in your hands if it's not Sony approved", I smell BS.

This is by far the most ridiculous comment I've ever read in a while. The quality of mic users has no correlation to what brand of headset is used. Removing mic support would simply take a chunk of the mic-user base, regardless of their age or maturity. You have as much of a chance of removing mature users as immature children from the chat community by doing this. That's like saying throwing a grenade into a room full of people will only leave the adults alive. It makes no sense.

Looks like they even disabled some MadCatz "official" controllers as well.

Just so we're clear, MadCatz pays Sony TONS of money to avoid things specifically like this. Sony has completely borked this. I'm not against stopping the jailbreak jerks, but there actions are like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

Terrible business practices of late on Sony's part....

Kinda how Microsoft makes you buy only they peripherals?

We all know this is to combat privacy on PS3. Do I agree with Sony recent patches? No I don't but I'm not ignorant to see why it's being done.

Piracy had been killing PC for years and pretty much any gaming hardware. It still exists but the numbers are now what they use to be.

What are you talking about? there are plenty of wired third-party controllers out there that still work perfectly fine. Where microsoft has their hang-up is on wireless peripherals for their console. But even so, they have at least started to grant third-party wireless controllers (started with GH and RB). Piracy schmiracy. That's just their excuse. And at least on the 'box I don't have to worry about something I bought magically not working anymore because of a so-called 'update.' Take the bluetooth bit for example. I can't use their official earpiece even if I did want to because that little part that goes in the ear causes me physical pain. Pretty much as far as earpieces go, my only choice in the market has been the Motorola H7** series because theirs just rest against the ear, so that I can use them and actually be comfortable. I also have a pair of stereo bluetooth headphones that are designed like those behind-the-head-style headphones. Yet now this update makes it so I can't use either of them. And for what? What stupid feature do I gain for losing functionality I am able to use? 3D bluray support. :| Yet another feature that I have absolutely no interest in using anytime soon, if at all. It's **** and you know it.

The thing that really hits home is that, in order to be an "officially licensed product" (i.e. MadCatz), you have to pay Sony a big chunk of $$$. The biggest reason is so that they include your product in testing and the sort when they do updates like this.

The fact that Sony, in haste to stop the hacking, screwed their own business partners -- and, in turn, it's customer base -- is a testament to how poor of a job they are currently doing.

And trying to excuse it with a press release about "non-official 3rd party controllers can EXPLODE" reeks of lunacy.
