the ps3 boxes you look at what it can run natively at
the 360 boxes you look at tell you what it can be upscaled towoofie13
on the other hand, Uncharted looks better than any game I've ever played and runs at 720p.
but the box says only 720p
I'm not sure if all games are like this or developers never decided on what the resolution should be posted.
its like upconverting DVD's to 1080I/P if u view these DVD's compared to BLU-Ray you will see that BLU-Ray is superior even though it says the DVD is 1080I/P.zanthia661
Exactly. Good comparison.
In other words, the 360 boxes are misleading and trying to sucker people in to thinking they're getting real 1080p, but it's just lower resolutions upscaled. If a PS3 game says 1080p, it's native, and therefore superior. Sony doesn't just toss the 1080p card around like it's a joke, they only put it on the box when they mean it. :)
I read somewhere that PS3 is the only system to do full 1080p. The 360 can only do 1080i native resolution. It needs to have a HD disc like Blu-Ray.coolcat888Not true. resolution have nothing to do with media storage size.
There's only a couple native 1080p 360 games, but I'm sure there are more 1080p games on the PS3. Since the PS3 doesn't upscale, usually he case says the native resolution. Though, some PS3 games have built-in software upscalers to support 1080i and 1080p, but they are still originally 720p.
And unfortunatly, all 360 games just show what the console is capable of outputting, not the game's resolution. Which is pointless, I think when people buy the 360, I think once is good enough on that box. unless they think some people are stupid and if the game says only 720p and think their 360 will be limited to only that and not work on their older 1080i tv that doesn't support 720p.
If a game is 1080p, it better be designed well for it, as I'd usually rather have 720p with AA and better framerate o nmy 1080p tv.

When Halo 3 was about to launch, and many users managed to get it early, I couldn't believe how many people claimed the game was true 1080p and looked perfect and no jaggies. It was like they were blind or had a crappy tv, maybe some placebo effect or had no idea what resolution and pixels are. As it was obvious to anyone with sense that got the game found it to be the most jagged game around, especially turning out to be 640p, let alone 720p.
On PS3 games that have software upscaling, do they clearly label the native resolution and the higher resolutions as upscaled? I would think those could be just as misleading as the 360 games.

Isnt it that the 360 cant run 1080p natively. It needs a HD player to run a pure 1080p picture. The only thing the 360 can do is upscale.

The HD player was just a plain HD-DVD drive, which is just a data storage device. It had nothing to do with the console itself displaying true 1080p picture other than the added feature of HD-DVDs. As a regular DVD can have 1080p video on it, but it would be really short due to lack of storage. Many people thought they had to buy the HD-DVD add-on to upscale regular dvds to 1080p when the 360 could already do that from its own DVD drive.
And when it comes to video games, they can pretty much be set for any resolution by the developrs, just depends on performance. A game like Virtual Tennis was a true 1080p 360 game. Right now 720p is just the sweet spot for best graphics and performance in games. There's not much need to spend time developing for 1080p due to the consequences in performance and lack of users that would be able to full take advantage of it. And for games, 1080p might just make jaggies smaller, while if the textures still lack detail it will look as if it was no better than 720p half the time. While HD video at 1080p shows signifigant gain thanks to the real world's infinite resolution.

LOL
no srsly, where are the mods?
Anyways, I see hardcore fanboys showing up. Stop this before it's too late! :(
the PS3 can upscale dvd's, ps1, ps2, and any Ps3 game to 1080p too.americahellyeah
DVD's , PSone and PS2 games can be upscaled to 1080p ...
PS3 games can only be upscaled from 720p to 1080i ...
If a PS3 games says 1080p on the back of the box then it has to be able to run at that resolution. eg. GTAIV apparenty says 1080p on the back of the box, however the game is 720p native with 1080i upscaling and what R* claim is 1080p upscaled ( though i have my doubts, since they would have to write their own engine code to do this as PS3 dosn't support it ...)
Lol, not my fault. I didn't want to ask it in the System Wars forum, FANBOY LAND over there. I just wanted to know something. :Pcoolcat888
than ask the question without bringing that other console into it.
Um, the 360 was kinda the main part of my question. Do you want me to rephrase it? "While the "other" console says it has 1080p on the back of the box, the PS3 doesn't. Why is that?"

Wrong... My 360 can do no better than 480p for DVD's, pretty sure the only 360's that can upconvert further than that are the Elite's or any HDMI version, the downside to those units is you cannot use digital optical for sound if you are running HDMI so with the 360 you can't have your cake and eat it too.

if you switch off every resolution except for 1080p it forces the game to run at that res.
