I'm thinking of buying a PS3, but I want to know if there is a major difference between each model? On eBay they range from 40-500GB in size. I don't plan on downloading games onto the hd so I don't have to use disks(or at least my friends say it's possible with their 360 consoles) so the cheapest 40GB hd will do me fine, right?

Well, the Newer Models (New 80 gb, higher) and 40 GB dont have backwards compatability. Other than that, I dont think so. Except for Memory Obviously.

I would suggest getting an 60GB off ebay. The Bad thing about 60GB is that they break easier than 80GB apparently.

either wait for a price drop, or get the 80g.

its more reliable than the 60g, and backwards comp is comming, eventually, through a firmware update.

So in other words you are going to limit yourself to only disc based games? 40GB is enough, but that is 40GB not counting the memory the interface takes up so you might only get like 28GB or something when you first get it. Games are taking up 5GB on installs and demos are known to be over a 1 gig sometimes. If your going to play one game at a time then that memory will be fine, but if you play multiple games, that might not be so great. If you want to buy 40GB and then put a new hard drive in the PS3 that would be good. If you are into backward compatibility go for the 60 or older 80 GB. If not, get the 80 GB. There is no difference between any of the models except for that the 20GB doesn't have wireless, the newer versions of the PS3 don't have BC which are the 160, the new 80 and the 40. The 160 comes with Uncharted which is a great game.

They all do everything mostly. There is no specific version that have abilities that others don't have like the 360. There is no PS3 arcade or premium system. Other than hard drive size and the minor tweaks mentioned above they are all the same.

I already have a Wii and I'm not worried about backwards compatibility because I have a PS2. I want a PS3 for most of it's exclusives such as KZ2, MGS, Resistance 2 and what really sparked my interest was Blazeblue which I played at a buddies house. I want me some Carl Clover and Taokaka ;)

I'll probably pick up an 80GB then, I've never had problems with a console and rather pay a little extra to alleviate any possibility.

If you didn't care about BC, get a 40gig. I got a used one bought a 500gig HD. I now have a 500gig PS3 for over a little than $400. Playstation has the best deal of any system for your money.

80GB + 500GB HDD = only slightly above the 160GB PS3 pricing.

The 60 gig also had the memory card readers that the newer systems don't have. There is a difference in all the first SKU's but now the only differences are the size of the HDD.
