now in europe that the 60GB cost only 500 euro with 2 free games and a extra controle, and i think to myself who the **** need a 400 euro 40 GB, when u can get 500 euro 60GB with backwards compatiblally and 2 games 2 controle, an thats getting two games for 60 GB a much cheaper than getting 2 game including one more controle for the 40GB, hope i get a chance to get the 60GB for sure!
Personally i dont see the fuss about the 40 gb model, theres no BC but so what? ive still got my ps2 to play the games on if i want to and i could buy a bigger 3.5" hdd to up the storage on the ps3 if i wanted. The point of a new console is to play the new games not to keep on rehashing the old gen titles.
The more important problem is the lack of decent games rather than the features of the machine itself.
I think what we have also seen is that its not always the "best deal" people are looking for. Some people are just looking for the cheapest model... Sony is trying to accommodate everyone. If you want a great deal get the 60 GB bundle. If you want a cheaper system get the 40 GB model.
You guys are only looking at this from the perspective of a person with their own money. For the parent that goes in to buy a gift for their kid, they're not looking for deals. They're looking for cheap. It may be an amazing bargain to have the extra 2 games and what not but offering a lower price point is what matters to this group of people. A good salesperson may get them to buy the better deal, but picture a retail outlet with a shelf of PS3s going for 399.99 and another stack of PS3s going for more. It's christmas time and it's packed. See how the 399.99 is now worth it? Moreover, people looking to simply get in the HD movies will be able to get a pretty darn good deal.
The BC on the EU 60GB was a joke anyway. I never tried it myself, but my brother wanted to play MGS3 and it kept freezing. No scrathes on the disc, and didnt freeze a single time on PS2.
I've never used more than 2 usb-slots (one for headset and one for charging the controller), and I'll probably never use the memory card slot. To me, the only big advantage with the 60GB is the bundle with 2 games and an extra controller, plus the 20GB. But a lot of people were crying about the PS3 being to expensive on its own, so at least they've been shut up.
