Im about ready to get a PS3(finally). The problem is I cant decide which version to get. I'll probably only use it for games( maybe a few movies) and no online.

So is the 80 Gb worth the extra $100 bucks?

I bought the 40GB for I do not care about PS2 support and I put my own 80GB drive I had laying around from my MacBook. Works like a charm. I never owned a PS2 myself so really no need for me. You can put any size HDD in there that you want. It has to be the easiest thing ever. As long as you use a SATA 2.5" HDD you are ok. Keep the old one for warranty purposes.

I would definetely get the 40gig one for JUST PS3 games...oh and mate, you must do online gaming :). It's the new thing! I myself have a 40gig PS3, and it's far more than enough, it's purely a multimedia powerhouse.

HDTV makes the system look so much better. A lot games anymore don't look all that great on SDTV and the text can be hard to read sometimes. A lot of developers are not putting that much time and effort with the SD. HD is where it is at for sure. I won't game on anything but anymore nor will I watch SDTV at all either, I even refuse to buy DVDs anymore. Blu-Ray and HD-DVD for me only now.

Buy the 40gb if you don't care about playing PS2 games on it and you can get by with 2 usb ports. I very rarely use PS2 games in mine. My wife plays sims castaway for ps2 and lumines plus.

It shouldn't be a decision between 80gb or 40gb. It should be: Xbox360 or Wii?

Honestly I can't think of a real reason for a PS2 owner to get the 80 GB unless he travels with his/her console a lot and can't carry both onto planes.

Ok, if you download a lot of movies and music you might need the 80 gigs.

But seriously, the 40 gig value is hard to beat for folks who already own a PS2 (like, 90% of the people interested in a PS3 since the PS2 has the largest installed base in console history).

I have the 60 GB console and love it.

If I had to buy a new console right now, I would go with the 40GB console because I just beat MGS 3 and there are no other PS2 games I have any interest in playing.

I'm sure he prefers a system that won't actually break down on him.

That's not entirely fair. The Wii's never had anything like the 360's fail rate.

I don't understand. Why do you need a big hdd for online play? I don't play online, but I'm just wondering.

And I own a 40GB ps3, I have a ps2, and I don't need superCD or 2 extra USB's or memory card slots, so, I'm okay with it, I guess.

Get the full deal 100 bucks more for a extra 40 gigs is worth it. Plus PS2 isn't gone yet, maybe you will find a game you like for that system too.

I am verry happy I bought the 80G! I wouldn't settle for less. Plus it came with MotorStorm which is a great game...especially online. If I were you, I'd go with the 80G.

r u on crack?, THIS IS NOT SYSTEMS WAR FORUM.......do yourself a favor and learn to read first.

As mentioned before, it all come to:

1) If you dont have or plan to play PS2 games, get the 40 GB.

2) PLAY ONLINE!!!!!! IF YOU DONT YOU ARE NOT GETTING THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE PS3, BESIDES, THERES HOME COMING!!

3) ITS A WAR CRIME TO USE A PS3 WITH A SDTV.

YES!!!!!

I have an Xbox 360, PS3, and a Wii. With the Wii it doesn't matter much, but with the PS3 and Xbox 360 you will think you just upgraded from your Atari 2600 (ok so that might be a little over the top). Save that extra $100 and go with the 40GB and put that money saved toward an HDTV....well worth the investment.

Your decision definitely shouldn't be based on HDD size that's for sure. You can easily swap out each and stick in a bigger one whenever you want. If you have a lot of PS2 games and don't want to have to switch between the PS3 to PS2 to play them, then grab the 80 gig (or the 60 gig if you can find one. Its the best version, hands down.). I think the 80 gig still comes with a copy of the game Motorstorm, so for that extra 100 bucks, you get a 60 dollar game and PS2 BC. Not too bad.

The 40 gig is a good deal if you only care about PS3 games. Its a good starting point.

Yes, you should definitely get into online gaming, especially on the PS3 where it will cost you nothing to play online with friends (considering you have high speed net access). In the future, definitely look into buying an HDTV. You can get some descent one's for under 500 bucks depending on the size you want. An HDTv is imperitive to really take advantage of these next gen consoles.
