I know of the differences between both and i know that there is a $100 price difference, i also have a ps2 so backward comp. isnt really a huge worry for me, but the multi card reader would be nice...anyway the question is from ur experience is the 80GB really worth the extra $100...and to make this more difficult a local store is selling the 40GB with both spiderman 3 and a game

On a side note, is it better to lay the system down or stand it up?

i owned a 60 gig ps3 and went dead some circuits, overheating and other issues ... are the 40 and 80 versions more '' modern'' or ''updated'' in internal parts than the 60? its because i dont want to go through the repairs again ... and is the 80 gig better in taht aspect than the 40 gig?

thanks

I personally bought the 80 Gb, and this is why...

I don't like the concept of running out of storage room. The 80 Gb pretty much guarantees I won't. The person who posted above me mentioned that you can buy a multicard reader seperatly, so if it costs less than $100, go for the 40 Gb. If not, just get the 80 Gb and have it built in.

You're certainly better off having the PS2 since the software emulation on the latest 80 Gb isn't up to par with the PS2 hardware. I no longer have a PS2, so I wanted that back compatibily as well, flawed though it may be.

My system came with Motorstorm (which I won't play, and would've opted out of if I could), but again, if you want the game and the Spiderman movie, the 40 Gb sounds like a good idea.

In the long run, I'm sure it doesn't really matter. You still get PS3 game functionality and a Blu-ray player, so the 40 Gb sounds like agood dealfor you. I mean, a $100 is a $100, right?

Well I would say 60gb but they stop making those and you said you got a ps2 already then I say get the 40gb save the extra money for games when you get the ps3!!!!

Thanks you for the ideas...i forgot that i could buy a mulitcard reader...also the memory can be upgraded by buying a laptop harddrive and it doesnt effect the warranty so 40GB or 80GB isnt really that big of a deal and with a multi card reader i could just put my old saved game filesonto my computer and not worry about running out of room

The one thing that wasn't covered is the PS3 does a good job of upscaleing the PS2 games. When I first got my PS3 I had a PS2 that was never used after seeing how much better the games were on the PS3. I have the 60 gig that has the EE chip.

Get the 40GB. The extra perks you get with the 80GB package just aren't worth $100. The 40GB may not be backward compatible with the PS2, but it still has HDMI outputs and Wireless Internet capabilities.

I bought the 40GB. I'm very,very happy with it.

My PS2 was 1st gen and just now started to have disc read problems so I traded it in for my 2nd PS3. I just got divorced and spend half my time at my house and half at my apartment. My 7 year old fell in love with my 60 so I told him when the house sells, he can have that. I got the 80 gig just in case I wanted the backwards stuff. Plus, $100 isn't reall that much of a deal breaker for me. I'd rahter have twice the disk space. I already had Motorstorm so they took it out of the box and gave me credit towards the PS3. It was a sweet deal. I think with some games and my half broken PS2, I got $100 off so it really didn't matter. I even bought cables, an extra controler, AND the BR remote.

Get the 40gig. If you ever need a larger HD then you can replace the current one. I just replaced my 40 gig drive with a western digital 120g hd and only payed $69 for it at newegg.com

1. Your PS2 will die some day

2. PS3 will upscale your PS2 games.

3. I would get the 80gb. Free game (to sort of equal the 40gb deal you can get), more storage, and much more options. There won't be a point where you will wish to yourself you got the system with the most options because you wanted to save a relatively small amount of money. Also, the sleeze bags will probably discontinue it soon so get it while you still can.

If Sony get their Video On Demand service sorted out (like they promse), then 80 gig is definitely worth it. Also, card readers mean transfering data from your computer ten times easier. In a nutshell, if youplan todownload movies, etc. direct to the PS3, go 80:D

Well what is the USB and memory slots used for? Is it just to transfer saved games? Cause then, I have no need for it. Cant you use USB memory sticks anyways? Why do you need 4 USBs?

Would be helpful if someone can explain the functionailty of these ports. Thanks

just to clearify, right now the 40GB is coming with spiderman 3 AND Virtua Fighter 5 (no extra cost) so the getting a game argument isnt really a factor...i was thinking the same thing as ZenLunatics, cant i just use the USB in place of the multi card reader...not to mention i could buy a multicard reader for very little $$...the extra GB's can also be bought...which brings me to a new question, has anyone tried using an external harddrive with the ps3? if so how has that worked for you?

On another happy note i found out that there is an attachment that can be bought so when i buy rock band i can use my ps2 guitars...which is old news but still sweet to me

The card readers are great when you have some kind of digital media. And after the last PSN update there begining to have some PSP games that can be downloaded and put on the flash drive for the PSP (there is only about a half dozen at this time) but the numbers could grow in time. One of the games on the site I payed about $40.00 or more not long ago but it was about $15.00 on PSN. This is another reason the 80 gig with the card readers could be the better value.

correct. Graphic quality will never be compromised when it comes to movies and Ps3 games.
