40Gb or 80Gb for christmas?

Does the 40Gb come with all the stuff the 80 gb includes exluding motorstorm. I can get either the 40Gb or 80Gb for christmas but if i get the 80gb i cant get a game with it. I know it comes with motorstorm but i was wanting to get another. If i get the 40Gb version than i can get a game with it. Which one should i get and what is the difference

If you simply want to play ps3 games and watch blu rays, go with the 40gb and save some money. If you wanna have all the options, the 4 usb ports (which I use all 4 for various things, including an external hard drive, my cell phone charging, fragx controller, and a regular controller charger) and the card reader, which I use to transfer stuff off my pc quick to test out HD movies that i make, then get the 80gb. Either way you can't go wrong.

The difference is the 80GB plays PS2 games and also has the card-readers and two more USB ports. The 40GB DOES NOT play PS2 games and is missing the card-readers and two USB ports. I would say go with the 80GB, you get a lot more for your money.ScottEFresh

What about 60gb?
Does the 60gb have these functions too? Oh and, what's a card-reader? Is that the memory card port?

What about 60gb?

60gb does everything the 80gb does but plays more PS2 games and plays them better.

I would go with the 80gb (if you can't find the 60gb), I think it is a much better value.

the 60GB has all of the features, plays PS2 games but through hardware so the BC is higher than the 80GB

the card readers are the slots where you can put cards such as SD, Compact Flash, Memory sticks and such

i was going to get a 60, but i dont know if they still make them. if they dint ,ill get a 80 because i want to play ps2 games on it.snakeyes101

you can still find some 60gigs but it wont be that easy

a lot of stores have them online still so if you really want one that would be the easiest way of getting it

To add another question:
I heard PS3 nowadays have is using 90 nm technology but PS3s with 65nm is coming.. I don't really know what all this means so I'm gonna ask: How does this affect the performance? Is this going to make the newer PS3s much better or just a tiny tiny tiny bit?

Though I don't think anyone here could say with any certainty, I'd bet that it means no difference. The only reason people care about a new chipset for the other console is because a smaller chip might help reduce heat and (ideally) would be free of most issues that a rushed-out-the-door chip might have.

To your question yes, there is a differance, 80 can play old games, 40 can't.

Why can't you get it with the game, if nearby stores don't have then you can always get it off of amazon, they have the game and you don't have to pay tax or shipping.

If you already have a PS2. Just get the 40GB. Trust me. After having the console for a year (like me). I no longer play PS2 games on it. Just PS3 games.

You need to ask yourself this question. Are you gonna be playing PS2 games? I am not going to be that is why I am getting a 40GB (dont care for 4 USB ports, I'll hardly make use of the 2 of them anyway), already have a PS2 which plays games fine and dont need card readers (I have a USB key to transfer the data). In my opinion the extra features of 80GB are pointless except for BC. I'll never use BC anyway becuase I'll be too busy playing games like COD 4, R&C, Warhawk, Uncharted, Assassins Creed and UT 3 to be bothered by PS2 games.

My choice - 40GB

Personally I think when asking which model to buy we should tell newcomers either the 80GB or 40GB. The 60GB has had it's time in the light but now is a rarity and gem to those who own one :)

Anyways if you play PS2 games and have a cell phone/camera that have SD type slots then the 80GB is a MUST. I would say if you can live withouth these things then save some cash and go with the 40GB as I only use 2 USB ports at a time anyways. Also think about the future (80GB is more future friendly).

Also 90nm vs. 65nm chip I think they run the same except 65nm creates less heat and is cheaper to make which would be ideal for the manufacturer.
