While playing R2 last week, my game froze and I was forced to shut down my PS3. Only problem was that it wouldn't turn off right away. About a minute later I managed to get it to shut down, but then it wouldn't start back up (for about 5 minutes). After finally getting it back on, it wouldn't acknowledge any disks in the drive, and still won't. I've got a repair box comming, but I wondered if anyone else experienced anything like this scenario?

Late nights have become so much more boring and I find myself actually going to bed before 6 a.m.

Need to know if anyone else has felt this pain.

Wow, that sucks. The PS3 rarely fails, you got one of the few. You should play the lottery tomorrow, dude.

You can catch up on your reading though.

I haven't had a PS3 problem at all, but I can still relate to having an expensive brick.... I bought an Archos 605 160gb media player a few months back, and after just 1 week, it turned into a £250 brick.

Luckily, Archos were really helpful and have replaced it and it's been fine since, but I'll never forget that sense of anger and disappointment I felt when it first went wrong, and after only a week. I hope you get your PS3 sorted soon mate :)

Hmm... WTF?

To TC: I have to admit it sucks that your PS3 bricked, but it really isn't that common. Like Goldglove said -

No this isnt overheating so there isnt anything to point to a 60gig launch console, my consoles a 20 gig launch and itll go 30 hours without a overheat warning. I reckon its a 80 gig that the TC has, and I have to say, considering how rare that is youll probably have a lottery ticket winning you a 1 million dollar prize in 5 different counrtres. Dont be surprised if the Sony repair serviceman or woman begins by choking of dust in front of the telephone since it is that uncommon to brick a PS3.

Good (or bad I guess) to see that I'm not alone here.

Yeah, I've got a June 2007 80gb. I must be a pretty "lucky" guy because the disk drive on my Wii (which I later sold) shat out on me about a year ago as well. Rare stuff.

I do read quite a bit already, it's just a shame since I get off work at 10pm and most friends are 9-5ers, so they're all tucked away by the time I'm ready to kick it. Here's hoping for a speedy repair.

I have a 2006 60GB PS3 and I haven't had many problems with it. At least not as serious as this one. Sorry for your loss, TC. :( It sucks.

I got a 60GB one on launch and I have it on about 8 hours each day and I've never had a problem.

I didn't realise there were overheating problems till I just read this, I feel slighty paranoid now...

This generation, technology tends to have a short life capacity. Many ask why, I'll put this as blunt simple as I can. The more you play, the less it lives. As for your case, I presume it isn't ideal to slope around the couch for alittle more then half a day looking at the screen, everyday.
