I have my PS3 hooked up to a 5.1 Surround Sound system, which plays the audio great when I watch BDs. However, some (not all) of my regular DVDs do not play in 5.1, although they do say that it is supported on the back cover. Any reason why this may be?

Also, a while back when I first got my PS3, I tried playing CoD3, and I didn't really get any audio from it, and I think that this may have been the same issue (I haven't tried playing that in a while, but it just popped into my head).

i tried doing that and it still didn't work, but I know that nothing's wrong with the cables because BDs and all of the games I've played (besides CoD3) have worked. :\

what kind of cables are you using? If your using just HDMI that might do it. I know it sounds odd but that was my problem. Hope this helped.

How is it hooked up? If its hooked up to your receiver through HDMI, fiddle with the settings. If its just through RCA cables, thats why. You need a digital connection,.

Make sure in the PS3 audio options you have Dolby Digital and DTS both ticked.

Are you connected to your receiver with an optical digital cable? You might try going into the audio options on the PS3 and changing the optical out to "bitstream" and let your receiver do the decoding.
