We were playing guitar hero and the song glitched and started skipping but the notes and stuff were fine. We quit the game and it froze so my brother turned it off with the switch and when we turned it back on the icon for the game wont come up

Sounds like the Blu-Ray drive is done, you will either need to buy another drive or send it in to Sony. First did you try any other games?

I believe that is $150 bucks... might as well buy a used slim... 60GB are by far the most unstable of the PS3's.

Sony charges 150 to fix the PS3s. For Blu-Ray drives, well the prices vary on sites like Ebay.

You could send it in to Sony and pay the 150 bucks to get it repaired or you could go to this site on ebay and get it repaired for a lot less. Follow this link to check it out. Good luck!

I was having the same problem a little while ago, and all I did was run a DVD lens cleaner a couple of times, and blew some air in the drive. It works perfectly fine for me now.

Man that sucks. My brother in law 60gb also died this pass weekend. He tried to put in Blu Rays and different games but it just wouldn't read the thing. I'm guessing you have to call Sony. Just go to Playstation.com and find their customer service contact number. I guess you have to pay $160 and have patience to get it fix.

Is it for sure the blu ray drive thats broken? How hard is it to replace? It looks hard because you would have to disconnect all the wires then connect them again.

Youtube search, fix PS3 Blu Ray drive, and there' should be videos for it. I don't want to send in my PS3 and pay $160, so if anything happens to my PS3 Fat that's what I'm going to do.

But just incase if you open up your PS3 and try to fix it yourself but still won't get fix, are you still able to send to Sony or they won't fix it anymore since you opened it yourself?

So if you're out of warranty you won't be able to pay them to get it fix?

It's free to get it fixed with warrenty and you have to pay without warrenty

It's a disc that has a tiny brush on the bottom to clean the lens. You can pick one up at any store that carries electronics. Then, just buy one of those cans of air cleaner too and stick the little tube in the disc drive, not too far though, and give it a few bursts. It worked on my 20GB, and it hasn't been giving me any trouble since.
