Hi all,

I like some for you bought a new PS3 on the launch day. It has done nearly 2 years fault free service.........until yesterday.

i get 3 errors

80010514, 80029906, 80029941

i have just phoned sony and the guy said the blu-ray drive has given up and i need to cough up £182.50 to get it fixed.

heres my question:1. would i be able to successfully argue under the sales of goods act that the console was not of satisfactory quality?

2. on the sony website there is a offering of £2.49 a month insurance, am i allowed to take that out then claim on it straight away?

Thanks people!

Strange, mine broke after 13 months and Sony replaced it for free. I'd suggest trying to argue the sales of goods act thingy.

You need to have purchased insurance before it broke.

If you want to use the sale of goods act you'll have to put in a claim at the small claims court against the place you bought the PS3 from. Not against Sony. The retailer is liable for up to six years after purchase. You should speak to your citizens advice bureau if you want to take it further.

The 60GIG is the worst PS3 to get, because it has a highly failure rate than the 40 and 180. But, I can only suggest you save up and get it repaired for £150 - £200.

Bad news.. I've not had any problems with my 60gig (Upgraded to 320gb) but that's a painful amount of money to spend on a fix.

I dont think you'll have much joy with the being fit for purpose, the machine has worked for 2 years and the counter argument could be misuse or over use so you'll have a hard time getting it done free.

What's the source of the 60gb having a high failure rate?

I'm my own source. I've had three 60GB's that have failed, the one I bought from the store and two refurbs from Sony.
