i have just purchased moh airborne and i says it supports 1080p, this is my default resolution on my samsung 1080p hdtv, when i load up the game and hit the info button on my tv it runs at 720p, the only way i can get it to run in 1080p is if i manually take of 720p in the xmb, the problem is that if i do this all the other ps3 games are 720p, therefore lowering the resolution to 526 or whatever it is, this means manually changing the settings in the xmb, any ideas why it does not use the highest resolution on the games that they support? hassle having to change it all the time

using a hdmi lead as well

thanks

Don't quote me on this for I am a fairly new PS3 owner but I think it works like this.. the PS3 can upscale games(some) to 1080p although if you have 720-1080p checked off it'll run the game(s) at it's native resolution which in this case is 720, no games are a native 1080 not yet anway.

if you want 1080p games you have to uncheck the 720p thats the only way it will work and then you will have go back and check it when you want to play 720p games, it sucks but only a handful of games that play at 1080p anyway

I think the only games that do 1080p are Sony sports games like NBA 07 08 MLB 08 and so on. CoD4 does 1080p if you uncheck 720p and it looks better

Unless a game says 1080p on the back of the box do not try to play it in 1080p because it will look worse

Unless your TV is above 50 inches, you won't see a difference anyways.

Let me make this plain and simple for everyone right now: ALL Playstation 3 games are capable/meant to be played in 720p, and always will be. A select number oftitles will work in 1080i ifyour HDtelevision doesn'tperform in720p. Playing in 1080i causes alot of stress on your television, so it's not reccomended bytelevision manufacturers for extended periods of time.

If your game does support a 1080p option, only those with significantly large televisons should bother changing the settings.

Details look a lot finer when they have been downscaled from 1080 to 720, Ninja Gaiden Sigma should always be played at 1080p as it STILL runs at 60fps.
Some games play like filth at 1080p and it shouldn't be done.

you can play Ninja Gaiden Sigma in 480i rolling 60fps. Some Dreamcast games ran at 60fps, althoughthe graphicswere never the calibur of todays games.

Don't you mean details look a lot finer when upscaled from 720p to 1080p?

On a small television (50' or less), the naked eye cannot notice a difference if sitting far away enough from the television set. It all has to do with how far away you sit vs. how large your set is. I'll provide a link if anyone is interested.

I have no idea why gamespot makes what I type into one word sometimes.

"blocky when it's down scaled (down scaled may be the wrong word) but when it's squashed into a space 1.5x smaller (ay 720p).

I have a 26" HDTV and the difference between 1080i and 720p is very noticeable. 1080i looks way better... I have no Idea what you guys are talking about.

So what you guys are saying is that if you have a 37", 42", or 46" HDTV thats 1080p, you just wasted the extra money and you should of just got a 720p TV, even though the 1080p TV has a much higher resolution and more pixels? I find that kind of hard to believe.

Bro a 1080p TV is going to look better than a 720p just because. Go to the store and see for yourself. To see the difference in resolution it might have to be a certain size, but it will probably look better regardless.

The noticeablity of 1080p over 720p depend on not just the size of the tv, but how close the viewer is to it. For example, 1080p is noticeable on a 32" TV, but only if the viewer is ~1 meter away from it. that's why I want one of Sharp's 32" 1080p models, but they won't sell or ship them over to Australia.

Ok. I have a standard definition TV...why, because I cant afford an HDTV, but thats besides the point. I picked up MLB The Show, and on the loading screen it says to adjust your settings to 720p....is that an adjustment on the PS3, or is that an adjustment on my TV??? I wanna say again, I have a Sony Wega, standard definition TV.

What? ur saying 1080i is not recommended by manufacturors, LOL. who told u that.

If i want 1080i, then I want it, the manufactoror can change the tv's, i am the customer, gimme what i want.

1080i does not ruin ur tv, ive been using 1080i for atleast 7 yrs now, on my sony widescreen (a crt), and the screen performs flawlessly.

I have tried 720P on it, but the images dont look as crisp, if u go 2 shop and watch 720p, they r misleading u, they always seem 2 have a dvd movie playing, try switch it 2 asports channel, and now c the tv struggle. Pics will b distorted, and the colour and blacks bland.

I recently got a big monitor for my pc, but it has hdmi, so connected it 2 my ps3, pics look amazing, but i do tend 2 sit a bit close like a pc user would, its a 24" 1920*1200

edit: if 1080p was so inferior, y would sony use it? and japan, theyve had 1080p for 10 yrs now, the rest of us r just catching up

How close do you sit to your TV? This discussion is trivial and futile.

You can uncheck 720p and check 1080p to display 1080p. But technically speaking youre game will look better in 720p as thats its native resolution.When PS3 upscales the image to 1080p it creates gap in between the lines causing it to look blurry and different.It doesnt make it look magically better.

I = Interlaced

P = Progressive

Interlaced means one half of the screen refreshes every refresh cycle. Progressive means the entire screen refreshes every refresh cycle.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

With a standard def tv u can complltely ignore the message, theres nothingto adjust either internally (the tv itself) or externally (ur PS3). Your screen will be displaying a standard 576i picture because thats all it is capable of.

HDTV's are getting cheaper by the day so keep ur eyes and ears open and u might find a deal.

You said that because you have an 1080p tv but if you have two tvs side by side one with 720p and one with 1080p it's not going to make a huge difference like when you change from SD to HD. First the 1080p needs to be bigger and you need to sit at certain distance to notice some extra details.

1080p is not worth the money unless is at least a "42 tv set.

Then we should all stick with our 1024x768 17" monitors because it does not matter in such small scale, right? Better the resolution - better the image. BUT if you take a 1080p tv set and feed it a 720p image (DVD), you won't notice any difference between an HDready tv and a 1080p tv. If you want to watch 720p images (most ps3 and all 360 games for example) a 1366x768 res tv is fine (it will probably look better than in a FullHd anyways). On the other hand a blue-ray movie it's just a shame in that res..
