Im looking to buy a TV, and I want something bigger that 37''.I was wondering, is it really worth shelling out a few more hundred for the upgrade in resolution? I am kind of on a budget between 1000-1500 bucks. I looked through tons of websites. Can someone please help me, or at least direct me to soome decent TV that can do 1080p. I was thinking of getting this:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=222-4373

, but i want to know if i can get a better deal.

No it's not worth it. There are and will not be that many games supporting 1080p in the first place. Id just get a 720p or 1080i max resolution TV.

That TV is OK but since you are looking at a new TV, you should really invest in a 1080p. You can tell a difference in the games that are done already in 1080p (with obviously a lot more in the future) and especially if your ever going to watch Blu-ray movies, the difference is rather large. You will regret it in the near future if you settle for 720p. Check out Tiger Direct if your looking to buy online. They have lots of 1080p's around the $1500 range that are bigger also. Good luck.

Better off get the 1080P cuz more and more games will be made in 1080P, and the blu-ray movies too already are(atho I got a 1080i, 32")..... You'd rather go BesBuy or Walmart local stores, you'll get it right today! Than calling Dell, cuz Dell takes too many days in the mail.

 Good luck!

I don't agree with you dude , and i will tell you why:

1) If you look at the best games around for booth ps3,xbox360 e.g , gears of wars , rfom etc... They where made with the 720p resolution in mind , simply because we are a generation away from top graphics games running smooth enough in 1080p ,with the same poly count/physics/number of models on screen level as 720p, and that's a fact. Games with low poly count like Virtua Tennis , run smooth enough at 1080p.

 2) The trend now it touse more polygons/physics/number of models on the screen , so I'm afraid to say that 1080p is not the way to go with for the native resolution of 360ps3 games in a long term prespective. I conclude that between having smooth frame-rates , more poly count etc.. at 720p versus 1080p downgraded versions , developers stick with the first option.

 3) The difference between 720p and 1080p are not thatbig to justify "downgrade" top games in order to run at 1080p.

4) Of course we he have booth consoles/hd tvs video upscalers , (and let me say that they do a great job in it) , which is one more reason for sticking with 720p and let the console upscaler/hd tv set do the work.

Even not being exactly the same thing as having  as real native resolution material , it does the trick , letting only video buffs and their affiliates to spot the difference.

Response to mohammad112388 :

In my opinion the difference between 720p/1080i v.s 1080p TV sets price/quality/lack of 1080p content (except few games and few Blue ray/HDDVD movies) don't put 1080p sets into the "bang for the buck" section yet.

But if you are looking for a long term solution ,you should considerate buying a 1080p HDTV set . I do belive that we will have to wait for more  2 or 3 years to make it worth.

I hope my post had help you in some way , good luck with your purchase.

It isn't that huge...
It's definitely not worth the difference in price.
1080p isn't gonna be used widely in games this gen...sure a few games like Virtua Tennis 3 use it cause it can afford to with relatively little going on...but I'd be willing to bet MGS4 is in 720p or maybe 1080i. It's not just about "Ok lets use this resolution!" they have to weigh out graphics vs. performance as developers. Performance and 1080p with alot of detail in a game = bad framerate.
That and you might get conned with a 1080p set that really just takes a signal, downgrades it, then scales it to "1080p" but it's not native, and it's really not a 1080p television.

I have a 50" Sony SXRD Wega TV, and here's why I think anyone shopping for an HDTV should get a WEGA: http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/ISEO-rgbtcspd/reviews/20051115/sxrd.html The way pixels are built onto the projection is different, and better than older technologies. I mean come on, this TV used to cost $30k, it's a worthy investment to go with 1080p.

Future proof it and go with a 1080p, you won't be disappointed in the long run. I have a 720p/1080i TV currently, and I'm looking to upgrade to a 1080p tv sometime this year. There is a difference and in the long term you'll be happier by making the jump up in resolution.

I have a sharp 32" at 720p and it seems that's sharp enough for a t.v. that size. just get a nice rear projection t.v. that uses lcd or dlp, faster refresh rates for lcd and no burn in on either one.

I would get that TV for $1350,  it even comes with a free HD-DVD player.

It has 8500:1 contrast ratio,  6ms respond time, 1080p, 6 1080p compatible terminals (3 hdmi, 2 component, 1 dvi)

Sharp even calls it there "game players" line of tv's.    You can also opt for the 32 inch which is 10000:1 contrast ratio.

720p or 1080p? Depends on tv size and viewing distance.

There's your problem: you bought a 55" 720p TV. When you get to the 50+ inch sizes, you should aim for 1080p.

Contrast ratio in an LCD is crap. 10,000:1 is dynamic contrast, which was so distracting on my LCD I had to turn it off and settle for 1,200:1 static contrast ratio.
