I have a 60 GB PS3 with 4 USB ports that broke. I bought an 80 GB one with only 2 USB ports. I play Rock Band and use 3 ports: one for mike, drums, and guitar respectively. If I get a bass guitar, I would need a 4th. What gives? Thank you in advance.

Sony cut costs by cutting out extra things they felt were not important. In the case of the USB ports and memory stick readers thats no biggie I really don't see the need for 4 anyways and the only reason you need the memory stick reader is for PSP which connects through USB as well anyways. Sadly though I think Sony made a mistake in assuming we don't have a need for PS2 games anymore which is the only bad thing about the new 80GB and the 40 for that matter.

Rock Band is the shining reason to have 4 USB ports... Do you honestly think that adding USB ports is really THAT much of a cost addition?... It's like $5-10 for a USB hub... I would gladly pay that extra for the convenience in my system.

It wasn't that they didn't see a need for PS2 games. They just wanted to cut production costs for the PS3 while raising revenue from the PS2. It was a business move that helps them slightly and simply hurts the consumer's wallets when it comes to BC. On the other hand, it also helps the consumer in the fact that without BC, Sony can introduce another price cut sooner rather than later (whenever that may be). Without BC in the PS3, people without PS2's may be more inclined to buy a PS2.
