I Googled the error code but the internet isn't much help so I don't know what else to suggest. When exactly does this error happen? As soon as you turn the console on? Or when you go online?

You can download the system update directly from the PS website onto a memory stick-
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3
^Then you copy it from the memory stick onto the PS3's HHD. I've never done it before but it sounds simple enough. But if you try that and still get the error code then I guess you'll have to call Sony.
