80G Backward Compatibility: Was Working, Now It's Not...?!?

I purchased the PS2 game (Fatal Fury collection) which worked on the PS3 a week ago.After visiting the PlayStation website I saw Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (yeah, I like fighting games) was compatible with 80G players. However, when I tried to play either today neigher would load. It would take the disk, screen would go to black...and then nothing.

Now inbetween Fatal Fury working and not working I set up a wireless network and downloaded the update. Could the update be preventing me from playing these games even though the PlayStation website says both games have no reported issues with compatibility?

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated...and thanks for your time!
