That sounds weird I actually don't know what too say but deal with it, as long as they play. Normally if you put a disc in a quater of the way it just sucks it up but if you still find this annoying call sony, the thing is I don't think they can help you with that.

i don't see a problem... like you said, it's working perfectly. since you left it on for about an hour, maybe it went to standby mode... did you notice the XMB got a bit dim? when that happens again, try moving the XMB first with the controller to reactivate it before the inserting a disc...

That does sound strange... Can you explain what happpens in more detail? How long does it take for the PS3 to accept the CD? Are you trying to insert the CD when the system is in standby mode, or when it's on?

If your console plays the games the its not a problem, but from my experience that doesn't normally happen. But if every thing is in working order then play on its just somthing you might just have too get used too. I do understand that you don't want someone elses beat up console noone would.

I have notice this each time the console has been in standby for like an hour but in the end games enter and work.

OK so this how it happens, i turn on the console after like and hour which has been in stand-by then i try to enter the game, it doesn't enter easily, it feel like something is blocking the entrance and after some seconds it enter, after this it continues to enter very easily.

I don't think there's a problem. If you insert a disc in stand-by mode it does exactly what you are describing, takes a few seconds to fire up and then accepts the disc. If you press power and insert a disc right away, the same thing will happen, as the PS3 is doing it's initial boot up it won't take the disc, after a few seconds it will take the disc and load. If you press power and then take however long to get the game from the case, or do whatever, the PS3 boot sequence will be done and the disc will go in and load right away.

Clear enough?

This is happening only when my console have been turn off for a wile and after this i'm able to insert and eject very fast without problem, i'm inserting the disc after the screen that ask you to choose a user.

Hmmm, don't why it would be doing that to you then. It's a free call to Sony to see if they've heard about that issue, otherwise if it's working one way or another, don't worry about it.

I saw a similar topic last week i think, I don't think there is anything wrong with it; But it's definitely not normal. How far into the warranty are you? If your not far into it, keep using it; as long as its doing what it's supposed to do. Wait until it completely fails, then resort to giving Sony a call. Hope that helps:) All the best Richie

I don't think you should worry about it. As long as it doesn't take like, 10+ seconds to accept the disc, it's probably totally normal.

Is it harmful to insert a disc while the PS3 is in stand-by mode?

I do it semi-regularly, the PS3 simply turns itself on first and then loads the disc as it normally would. I'm sure Sony tested to make sure it wouldn't break anything.

I thought I was the only one who did this. But I'm gonna stop doing it from now on, because like what soulreaper-4 said half-way through this thread "it feels as though something is blocking the entrance before allowing the disc to enter."

And like you said earlier in this post touchyourtoes, I assume that when the PS3 initially boots, there's some sort of shutter or mechanism that blocks the disc from loading. I guess you're right, I think Sony would've tested everything to make sure nothing would break.

Thanks for the peace of mind touchyourtoes! Have a Happy Tuesday!
