Okay, so I've seriously been deciding on whether to get a PS3 or not, and I have a couple questions about it.

1) Does it freeze often? I have a 360, and the amount of freezing and hardware failures for it really upset me.

2) Does it lag a lot? By this, I mean when you're browsing through your friends list, does it chug through the names at a slow pace?

3) I've heard that the PS3 is much quieter than the 360. Is this true?

Thanks guys!

My PS3 has frozen twice. Once when I quit Folding@Home to play a game, but that seemed to be a fault on the F@H Software. The other time was while I was using the internet browser to, well, browse the internet.

Doesn't lag at all.

Well I do not own a MS console but I know while I'm at Myer or whatever shop that has one on display, I can hear the console through the display setup. I have my PS3 running all the time, I never turn it off, in my room, and my PC makes much more noise than my PS3, and my PC is set up to be a quiet PC.

There is no lag on the friend list, no lag at all lol... ever...

My PS3is extremely quiet, i run Folding@Home  at night and dont even hear it.

As far as freezing, I like to think of myself as not being a PS3 fanboy but it makes me laugh pretty hard to hear how the Xbox does that. Anyway, no it has never froze.

Wow! That's amazing, that you can keep it on through the night without getting three red lights of death.

Thank you for the answers, this is great news!

Now that I think about it, I have one more question. Is the online service free?

I've had mine freeze a couple of times, but that was only in the Ridge Racer 7 demo, I've never had a problem since I deleted the demo.  Also it doesn't lag when going through the friends list, but I only have 10 friends so it might if you have a ton of them.  And to answer your last question, it is extremely quiet.  It has to be in a relatively open area though to have it be reaaly quiet.

1. I finally got around to playing Resistance. I've been putting in several hours a day on my PS3, not just playing games but also listening to music, watching movies, and going through a few hundred digital photographs in a slideshow. I had one error in that time related to my connection timing out while at the online store. No crashes, no outright freezes. And of course, no frightening red failure light. 2. No lag at all. Resistance online gets pretty intense because of the number of participants. Performance moving between screens at the Playstation online store was a little slow, but we're talking a couple of milliseconds. 3. My PS3 is pretty quiet, on an order of a magnitude quieter than my PS2 after a while of usage. I believe it is quieter than the 360. That said, in a very quiet room, you can hear the PS3 if it's been active for a while. It'll sound like there's a small fan running. Good luck considering your purchase. I love my PS3, and I happen to use all of its features with the except of the PSN messaging.

I have had zero issues with my PS3; having said that I had no issues at all with my 360 during the 1 year + I had it.  If your 360 is crashing as much as you say maybe you should go get it repaired.
No lag what so ever.  I'll be the first to admit though the PSN is NOTHING like Xbox live.  Not even close.  Sure it is free but when it comes to online I'm starting to think you get what you pay for.
My PS3 is much much much quieter than the 360.

1) Only froze on me once so far, and it wasn't in game it was when I was fiddling around with the blutooth controllers or something.. 2) havent noticed much lag at all, only time that I can think that there was VERY LITTLE lag was in a battle in Oblivion but it was very little. 3) God yes it is, might even be more so than the PS2 I really love the hardware

Wow, yes, this is great news. 60% of the 360 board was exploding with "zomg hardware failurez", but it's nice to hear that the PS3 took it's time and made it right.

1.) So far I've not had any crashes or lockups, even on BC stuff. Had mine since UK launch. 2.) Npe it doesn't lag much. 3.) No it IS noisy when the larger fan cuts in, it's silent until it starts to do something taxing...then the fan ramps up even more when it really gets going :) So it;s only quieter than 360 when ur just browsing the menus sry :( Ade.

I knew the fan had diffent speeds but mine has never gone beyond the lowest. I have played motorstorm and RFOM for many hours straight and I usualy turn on Folding@Home on at night. What did you do to get the fan to ramp up?
P.S. If you buy a PS3 buy a bluetooth headset and motorstorm and Resistance Fall of Man you wont be dissapointed!

Oh yeah, I'm definitely picking up a mic and Resistance when I get the PS3. Though, I won't be getting many other games this year, as having a 360 AND a PS3 is very taxing on my wallet. Honestly, as of right now, I only see myself getting Resistance and MGS4 whenever that comes out.

EDIT: I forgot to ask, what's this Folding@Home thing?

Folding at home allows Stanfords research team to use the processing power of you ps3 (all 2.18 teraflops) to research diseases such as cancer. Many people say the price is expensive to keep your ps3 on but in my area it cause around 4 dollars a month to leave it on 24/7. I think it is worth it if it has any chance of helping.
