Hi, I have decided to get a PS3 Slim with 120 GB this Christmas and decided it would be wise to get a fan to attach/put next to it to prevent overheating. I saw that indeed people do make fans specifically for the PS3, after searching on Amazon:

*******

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=ps3+slim+fan&x=0&y=0

*******

...But I'm not sure which one is good, because they all seem to have mixed reviews/no reviews at all. I don't believe Sony makes them, (Our systems would NEVER overheat!) but can anyone recommend/give me a link to a great fan for the PS3 slim for me that is hopefully 25 dollars or less? Thanks!

The Slim doesn't require a fan, I've had mine nearly a year and it's perfectly fine, it runs quietly and it doesn't get hot.

I don't know about fans, but I know a lot of people use laptop chill mats instead. And they're like 20-30 bucks.

First thing you need to know is that the PS3 Slim like every laptop and highen electronic will get hot or warm while using it. It's nothing to worry. If the console is overheating the power light will turn red, flash like three times and the system will shutdown. I've been using my Slim since last year and while it does feels hot toward the back it haven't shutdown by overheating. Oh one more thing you need to know, it is not as whisper quite as some people claim. Some of them are louder than others because they came with different Fans, some of them have a Delta while some of them have a Nidec one. It is said that the Nidec ones are the louder so it is 50/50.

You really do NOT need to add a fan to the Slim.

The things run very cool, especially compared to my 60gig launch unit. My 250gig slim runs quiet as a hummingbirdy.

None of these newer model consoles whether Xbox 360, PS3, or Nintendo Wii require these gimmicky aftermarket fans. They were built without them so it's obvious that they are not needed. Hardware needs to heat up to a certain extent, but not overheat. You should not be worried about your PS3 overheating. If it is, you better call Sony.

Fans are just a gimmick, just like expensive HDMI cables which basically do no better than $10 ones. The best thing you can do for any machine that gets hot is to put it in a well ventilated area. Lots of people put their consoles in an enclosure and wonder why it bricks a couple months later.

Well i got a fan attactment on my fat ps3 only because its fan would always be on full speed so now that fan on the back helped it a bit.
On the slim i dont think it really needs one.

I heard once that one of those intercoolers melted being attached to a 360, so I can't say I'd recommend the PS3 counterpart.

OK, no more worrying about a fan for the PS3 slim! I think it was the older model that needed it more. Either way, thanks, guys!

This right here.

The slim can get pretty warm in the back but its supposed to. The power unit and vents are back there so its completey normal. You could run the slim for days and it would still be okay.

Yeah, it's not really needed. I got my slim about 6 months ago, have left it running on folding@home for a couple days at a time.. never really felt that hot. Also, I got a fan stand for my 360, and after a couple weeks it got loud as hell, and after a month it didn't work. I also bought one for my Wii (like an idiot) and had the exact same problem. I wouldn't worry about it.

a vertical stand and anything that will circulate air in you gaming area will be suffecient.
