Disk speed maybe part of the reason for installs but don't make it sound like its the only reason. The original xbox used a hard drive and did installs but it had dvd9 in it. And from side to side on a bluray the speed is constant where as dvd9 its faster at the outer edge and slower toward the middle. So its just a matter of how a programmer codes it and organizes on the disk.
Either way true power want come from multiplats anyway just exclusives on either console. Now what I do wish they would have done was when they found out the 360 had 512 megs of ram, sony should have implemented 1 gig of ram :) Then programmers wouldn't have no excuses for resources on the ps3 side.
At the moment it's painfully clear that developers aren't using the full capactiy of the Blu-Ray disc but as time goes on it's safe to say that they will really NEED that extra 20GB (based dual layer HD DVD compared to dual layer Blu Ray). The question I ask myself is whether or not Microsoft's unflinching hold on their non-Blu Ray equipped Xbox 360 could damper the possibilities of a given game that goes multiplatform? I fear that the money hungry developers would rather put out a lesser product due to lack of disc space just so they can release it on multiple systems as opposed to giving gamers a well developed, lengthy, truly amazing and in depth gaming experience that they can only sell on one console. That part in particular sounds like a possibility. But, Microsoft isn't stupid. They know that at some point, if they don't want to lose revenue, they're going to have to format the 360 in some way to accomidate the Blue-Ray Disc. I would imagine that those who already purchased a 360 will be given some kind of service to make thier systems read Blue-Ray disc.
