Okay, you know that the ps2 started out fat and bulky. Years later, the slim version was released. Do you think the ps3 is going to go through the same thing? 4 or so years from now, you think their will be a smaller, shinier, and sleeker ps3 with the chrome and the same features?

Oh yeah.  This will happen because Sony will be able to make a system just as good w/less parts.  It will also be cheaper to produce as well.  It won't be as slim as the pstwo manily because of the harddrive is required w/the PS3.  But yeah, I think we will see a redesign of the system.

I don't see it happening. There was a huge boom in technology at the time of Playstation 2. Chips became faster, smaller, cooler. The boom has almost ended now, and technology is growing at a much slower pace. You won't see that much improvement on the size of the components.

Personally, I think it will happen because pc's are getting much smaller. I just got a new Dell PC that is only like a foot tall and it loads so much faster and quieter and has the same function as my old PC which is bigger and louder.

No im sorry to say but it would be kind of hard for Sony Computer Intertainment to creat a smaller ps3 i have taking my ps3 apart knowing what i was doing, there is a hard drive and inputs for HD. No i dont think so in the near future yes i will say so, because technoligy will build into some impressive stuff.

are you sure? technology is moving forward pretty quickly. a smaller version in a few years doesn't seem absurd

id rather have a fat ps3, the thin ps2 overheats to easily and acts funny so that may happen with the thin ps3 if they make one

A 2.5' hard drive could fit in the slimline if they wanted it to.  Those things are tiny.

chips can't get too much smaller, or heat might become an issue. I don't know if the chips will produce any siginificant electric fields, but if they do, that might be a problem as well.

It's hard to say if they will. It depends on if they can save more money by redesigning and shrinking the size of components. But considering the complexity of the Cell and GPU, it's unlikely they will be able to save enough to justify a redesign.

as technology gets better and smaller, I'm sure they'll come up with a smaller design, maybe make the PSU external so less cooling is required. But I don't think it'll be as small as the slim PS2

I hope they do.. Who here actually likes first PS2 more than the slim!?! Not me! The current PS3 is sorta love it or hate it.. Another "less intrusive" design can only help.
