I'm planning on getting a PS3 soon and before I do, I was wondering, if you NOT going to play online(I just want to take it out of the box, plug it in and put the adapter in back of my TV and enjoy), do you HAVE to have your PS3 hooked up to your computer?

No if all you want to do is play games on it as you do with a PS2 all you need that you don't get in the PS3 box is a TV! But you're missing out big time by not playing on-line. You will need to plug it into your router if you don't have wireless in your house. That is if you do want to go on-line

If you have no plans to play online at all, make purchases at the playstation store or make use of Folding@Home, then no. You would have to do system updates by downloading onto your computer and transferring it over on a memory card/ stick. To be honest, even if not planning to play online, i would hook it up just for the store and easy updating.

No, you don't need to hook your PS3 up online in order to play it.

You don't have to have the PS3 connected online but then there are some games that are downloaded and the demos are nice to check a game out before you buy it. But it is highly recomended that you get the latest firmware update and keep it up to date whether it's trhough the PC or the console. If you are wanting to play some of the PS/PS2 games the is a virtual memory firmware that is in the PSN store that when it's downloaded makes things a lot easier with these games.

I pretty sure it connects like a 360 you just need a router and an ethernet cable and a online service and it should work.

Not true, firmware updates come on game disks as well. You don't need a computer or even an internet connection to update your firmware, just a game that has the latest firmware.

you will really want the updates online, if you can hook ur ps3 up online at a friends house so u can download the updates for the ps3, otherwise you miss out on upscaled ps2 games and upscaled dvds and so on
