I was wondering if there was a difference b/w Emotion and Emulation software?

Meaning do old games look better on Emotion than Emulation? Because people seem to write that they're disappointed at someone for buying the 80gb b/c it doesn't have Emotion Engine.

I am planning on buying a PS3 but chose to wait until the BIG BANGANNOUNCMENT next Friday. I heard that the new 40gb is being introduced. I have enough money for a 60gb and 2 games but if I can get one for a hundred dollars cheaper that means I have some money left for the holiday season for some more games. But I also heard that the 40gb might not be BC so I am holding out until SONY confirms it. Also, I heard that the new console would be missing Card Readers and 2 out of the previous 4 usb slots. But if not BC then I'll get the 60gb.

Can I still transfer my old memory cards saves to the PS3 onto the 40gb without the Card Readers?

Need to know plus I am not a tech guy so bare with me when I ask these questions that may seem dumb to most of you!

I heard the same rumor of no PS2 BC, which makes absolutely zero sense. The 80GB has no Emotion Engine, but software emulation takes care of the bulk of BC games. Why would Sony go through the trouble of making two separate firmware updates from here on out, one without any BC and one with, just to screw over 40GB buyers when it would actually cost them more money to do so? I'd be surprised if they can't play any PS2 games.

I can't speak of software emulation as I have an EE model. The main difference I can see is that PS3's with the EE run virtually all PS2 games. However, those without run, I don't know, 65% or so? Though it seems to creep up with every firmware update.

You can transfer saves without any card readers. You'll need to buy the Memory Card Adapter, which retails for about $15, and it connects into a USB slot. Actually card readers are irrelevant, you'll need the adapter no matter what PS3 you buy if you want to transfer your old saves. The card reader only works for stuff like Memory Sticks and SD cards.

The 40GB should be just a stripped down 80GB PS3 so it'll have the same compatibility as that machine. Just like the xbox360, software emulation is not as good as having the actual hardware. If you don't plan on playing ps2 games then this won't be an issue for you.

You are correct about the card readers and lesser USBs. The 40 GB model uses Emulation however as it doesn't have the emotion chip.

If you plan to play alot fo PS2 and PS1 games then I would suggest getting the 60 GB otherwise the 40 GB will also serve you well.
