If I wanted to play PS2 and PS1 games on a PS3, would I have to buy the 60gb model?

I thought the 80gb was incompatible with most ps2 games? I'm trying to decide which one to get since my local Gamestop has both for the same price. Backwards compatibility is worth 20 less gigs for me.

most Ps1 ans Ps2games work on the 80 gig, and they make more and more avaiable through system updates. DMC 3 didn't work and i waited for an update and now it works perfectly

If your that concerned go on ebay and try and find a 60 or 20 gig

p.s. check the playstation websit if your really really concerned

I remember on the ps2, ps1 games had decreased loading times. Is it the same way on Ps3? I'd love to play some PS2 games minus the loading.

It's compatible with about 80-90% of all PS2 games. 10-20% is not 'most'.

If you can get a 60 gig SKU that would be the best at this time, but the 80 gig is very close when it comes to BC (with firmware updates the 80 gig could reach the same support as the 60 gig is now). And the 40 gig will not support any PS2 games (it will support PS1 games though).

Yes, the 60GB model and the 80GB will be able to play PS2 and PS1 games while the 40GB will only be able to play PS1 games I think.

haha, exactly, you could be missing out on your favorite game if it's in that 10-20%. I'd go with the 60 if you can find it. Mine has been able to play 100% of the games I've tried on it thus far.

Do they load faster on either of them? If the software emulation is faster than the hardware (with loading times) I might just go for that. I don't have many obscure ps2 games that would be incompatible (at least I don't think so).
