If you're using the HDMI cable connection from your PS3 to your Tv well you might be out of luck..... Why? Because the HDMI cable is different than the DVI cable. The DVI cable looks like the connection that goes from your computer monitor to your desktop which is a thick cable with around 18 to 24 pins depending on what the setup is. The HDMI cable is just a flat blade that's no wider than an inch. If your TV does not have the HDMI connection then you'll have to settle for the Component connection. Unfortunately, depending on your tv/monitor it MIGHT support up to 1080i but most likely 720p...... Check out this website for the difference in connection for DVI & HDMI connections & cables. http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-8900_7-5132426-1.html Hope this is helpful. Also, could you at least tell us what type of tv you have? Model, Year, Brand, etc. It might be a bit more helpful in the future. Later.Â

Well since your tv has a DVI connection I suggest you buy a HDMI to DVI cable or a HDMI cable along with a DVI adapter (If you're going for DVI). Make sure what type of DVI connection you have and also make sure your product supports HDCP.
As for comparison between the two.. http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/dvihdmicomponent.htm
