I am planning on buying one next weekend but I am wondering about the issue of overheating. The console will be in my room inside my entertainment center. My center had a cardboard cutout to close out the back of it but I tore it out so enough air would escape through the back. Is that sufficient space for the PS3 to run or will I have problems?

Should be enough. The PS3 emits air from the right side of the console by the way.

I had mine in a semi enclosed space like that beofre. You will be able to feel the heat in the space for sure. Let me tell you, I never felt comfortable with it in there and it now rests on top of the entertainment center.

But as for overheating, I have heard of no such issue with this system. It does get warm/hot during use but it is very efficient in heat transfer. Just keep in mind that heat is the enemy of all electronic systems and will invariably effect performance no matter what. If you want to ensure a long healthy life for your $500 system, give it room to breath. You will feel much better in the end.

I used to have the 90's style all black enclosed stand with a hole in the back. It got pretty warm but no hardware problems
