Hello. Let me explain my situation first. I live in Argentina. In here, although officially we have PAL, it is actually PAL-N and European PAL only is played black and white. All tvs here fully support NTSC. I am going to London and Paris next week and I'm planning to get the PS3 + GTA 4 and MGS4 (duh). Here are my questions:

1 - I Understand that PS3 games from the U.S. WILL work on an european PS3 (games are region free), can you confirm this? Does this apply to BD movies?

2 - Is there any disadvantage in using a PS3 as a BluRay movie player instead of buying the actual Blu Ray disc player?

3 - IMPORTANT: If I connect the PS3 with HD (HDMI) on an LCD (Bravia), the NTSC/PAL colors will no matter anymore since I'll be using HD signal, right? I had an european Xbox 360 which only worked black and white, but when I used HDTV signal it worked correctly (since it was no longer sending transmission in PAL but in HD). Does this happens with the PS3 as well? IN OTHER WORDS: WILL I BE ABLE TO USE AN EUROPEAN PS3 ON AN NTSC LCD IF I USE HD DEFINITION?

4 - What "package" should I buy? 40gb? Where is better priced, England or France?

5 - Any other good game worth getting?

Thx in advance for answering my questions, it will help a lot.

Playstaion 3 Games generally are region free so you should be OK. Blu ray movies are trickier as some are region free and some are R1, R2 for example, but it will say on the box

2 - Is there any disadvantage in using a PS3 as a BluRay movie player instead of buying the actual Blu Ray disc player?

I'd say the PS3 is better than a Blu Ray player. Fully Upgraded to Version 2.0 and has all the features.I'd reccomend a sony BR remote for the ps3 as its alot better than the controllers.

3 - IMPORTANT: If I connect the PS3 with HD (HDMI) on an LCD (Bravia), the NTSC/PAL colors will no matter anymore since I'll be using HD signal, right? Correct. A 720p signal is the same in america as it is in the UK, China,India, where ever.

4 - What "package" should I buy? 40gb? Where is better priced, England or France?

In france it is 399euros which is £295. a 40GB ps3 is £299. Buy in the UK (better deals). Currys have a good deal where you get MGS4 for an aditional £10.

5 - Any other good game worth getting?

Uncharted Defiantely. Concider COD4, Heavenly Sword, GTA IV, Burnout Paradise, Resistance and Motorstorm are older so they should be cheaper. Also, A Dualshock 3 might be a good idea.

Thanks, although I have one doubt left about this: when you say "playstation 3 Games generally are region free" does this mean not ALL of them are region free?

That is totally incorrect. 720p still displays in either PAL or NTSC. Hell in European/Australasian PAL regions there are actually 2 types of HD PAL. PAL50 and PAL60, PAL50 displays at 50 Hz, while PAL60 displays at 60 Hz.

As mentioned above PS3 games are region free. Blu-ray movies are meant to be region locked _BUT_ if you check out http://bluray.liesinc.net/ you will find a list of movies that are either region free or all region.

All games are region free but sometimes are regionalized for the area they are sold in. Its is not a problem though. Its just to appeal to the consumer or to not affend them. Like if you bought Fallout 3 from Australia you would find the drugs look very different or might not even exist to please the people that rated the game.

WOW, wait a minute. Cause this changes A LOT. In the Xbox 360, with NORMAL signal I had both Pal50 Hz and Pal60 Hz . But none of that mattered when I change to HD with components cables. Are you sure about what you are saying? Could someone please confirm this? I understand HD is independant from NTSC/PAL signals.

The thing is most of games that comes here to my country comes from the U.S., and I can most likely bring games from there too. If I have an european console, no problems with that? thats all i'm asking. My PSP is also european and it also has region free games.

I'm 100% sure about what I'm telling you. Also on your 360 you say it didn't matter but it actually does some games don't work in PAL50 in HD. I'm not sure why you need to worry about it though, you already said your 360 works perfectly fine using HD resolutions. So your TV is fine for multi-region HD. And finally ... once again ... PS3 games are region free. I'm in Australia and I've owned over 50 titles for the PS3 nearly all of them North American imports. Time for you to stop worrying and just buy a PS3. :)

Thanks, although I've been reading and the Pal 50 and Pal 60 are the same signal with a slight variation (one being a Pal hybrid with NTSC). HD is a completly different signal, so it won't matter Pal or NTSC if I have it on 1080p.

Thank you anyway for helping clearing the doubts. PS3 coming home SOON!
